To be fair, Rick's been a major prick for a long time and it's been pretty obvious. (I do own a xm-24) He has a long history of not taking criticism well and acted like a bully towards reviewers in the past. I think he made a major miscalculation this time by going after Brian though. Brian didn't roll over like Rick thought he be would and decided to put everything out there and it's going to backfire big time. I think he's just so used to getting his way that he can't imagine not coming out on top.

Rick is a prick and I've been told by Tim Reeve himself that if I can't afford a Sebenza that it was no sweat off his back because he has plenty of dedicated buyers. I hate when they have that attitude. I don't hold it against him though because he seems like a great guy and probably just has a lot of stress in life. It does definitely affect where I spend money however. I'm sticking to Buck from now on however because they aren't ridiculously priced and have great heat treat. Greg Medford seems like a dang good guy but a bit arrogant at times. I just steer clear of them now...

Those are things people who fear losing subs say, those are things people who fear makers not including them anymore say. Jarad talks tough but just like most who gotta talk it, ain’t it. I was a big Neeves knives supporter until this went down but now I believe he’s shutting his mouth so that people don’t look to deep into his huge increase in sub count. When the whole Slicey Dicey thing went down, it really bugged me that MC refused to speak on it in any kind of real or honest way. Even though leading up to it he was always cross promoting with Slicey, doing collaborations, and clearly being close with one another. So there was obviously a crossover in followers in which some were likely affected by the whole thing but he wanted no part of it even though that person had clearly created a toxicity in the same community that supported and helped raise up MC. That said, if people really want specific change within any community that is based around buying products and supporting brands then you’ve simply gotta vote with your purchase choices. It’s simple and the same thing you hear all the time but it’s really the only way to really push change.

@@CptShelby agreed. In my opinion there’s two kinds of knife reviewers. Those who truly use, sharpen, and actually get to know the knife over an extended period of time. Then there’s the entertainment/collection/fidget reviewers who do an unboxing/first impression and conclude with what I’d argue is an in depth first impression cloaked as a review. It’s impossible to give a real review based on a knife that spent very little time in pocket, has never been sharpened, and in the end is still like new so it can go into a giveaway or knife sale. I do think both have their place in the community. Obviously the true in depth review is a invaluable resource but the “in depth first impression” reviews are a great way to see a knife’s features up close and gives you more of a reference than just the pictures available from online retailers. In the end I think they’re both good for the community as long as people aren’t putting too much stock in reviews that are more or less just daily content for the algorithm. Also people should remember that outside of the actual specs of a knife, the rest is opinion.

First of all, let me say that I respect the hell out of the way you approach things. From a philosophical sense, it's great to have outspoken people in the community who really use their knives and have a real world perspective like yours. That said, I think the community is fine, better than fine even. Yes, there are people who do things the wrong way, but this is the case in every community. Whether it's makers, reviewers, distributors, whatever, there are always bad apples. The encouraging thing for me is that there is any response at all when this type of thing gets exposed. The information is out there, the word spreads, and people have the luxury of being able to set their standards and choose who to support based on those standards. I always appreciated the fact that at blade show you run into people who are high end collectors and you run into bally users who've never cut a single thing, and you run into blue collar guys who need workhorse knives to beat the hell out of, and you can find common ground with all of them, even if you disagree on the fundamentals of what the community is about. Obviously, these topics are a little more serious than just basic ideas like that, but the fact that there is as much support for "the little guys" as I've seen recently is a big positive. Can it be discouraging to see a person or company you've trusted show true colors that aren't so pretty? Sure. But at least these smaller voices are being heard and they're receiving support. When I was making videos I made a point to never monetize or accept free stuff because I didn't want my "status" to ever influence the opinion I was able to share. I think people understand that this sort of thing happens to big time reviewers, and that makes the smaller names, in my opinion, the most important people in the community. As long as we have people like Steve, you, Lyndy, and many of the others who share the same ideas and have those principles, we'll all be just fine. It can feel like a losing battle but as long as you're doing the right thing it isn't. Keep doing what you do!

It’s greed and sadly it is affecting a lot more than just the bigger named makers and reviewers. Even the smaller ones are for sale to the highest bidder/sponsor. There are some channels who are sponsored by a company who is selling a product at a very inflated rate and claiming it to be made in the USA when in actuality it is made in China. I made a couple videos about this and I actually had a couple of them come at me and accuse me of doing it for clicks. LMAO!!!! Needless to say both of them are sponsored by KPL.

MC is a huge hinderer guy so I can understand not wanting to get into the hinderer v transparent issue from his prospective, I’m not saying it’s right and it is showing lack of stones, but it would be hard for someone to call out a company that you have or have had a lot of appreciation and respect for they’re work

@@shadowcastyt Jarrad is a very good guy. Honest and his redemption as he narrated a few times is very inspiring and is worthy of admiration and appreciation. He is a hard worker and his hard work is reaping off big times. I am forecasting that before the end of 2022 his channel would surpass that of NS as he currently surpassed MC. Good on him. Chapeau!

The fact that we are all eventually going to cease to exist one day doesn’t make life meaningless!! It’s the very fact that conscious experience will one day end for all of us that makes every moment of life so precious. It’s the impermanence of life itself that gives it any meaning in the first place. Just a thought…

I haven't posted a YT video for quite some time & I only just started my channel fairly recently, so I've never made a video talking about any of this. I did donate to Brian's fund though. I do agree the community would be a lot better off if more of the popular people would weigh in on this kind of stuff. But those types of people are almost certainly afraid of hurting their own image, & therefore subscriber count, & therefore their wallet. Which I can understand to some extent, because they might be thinking, "I only stand to get hurt if I say anything, nothing good can come from it." But I disagree completely. If you're a popular knife "influencer" (ugh) & take the side of someone who's clearly being wronged (in this case, Brian Kim), it really shouldn't be a controversial stance to take. It's kind of sad we live in a world, not just knife community, where people are afraid to speak out because they're afraid they'll offend someone & hurt their image. If Brian can get the funding he needs to defend himself, that would be a great start in lieu of getting the big names to speak up. So if you're reading this & haven't donated, even like $10 would help a lot if a bunch of folks do it!

Kind of new to the community. I think this is a good thing. Think about it, learning these things about these types of people and the companies they represent is awesome. In the past (yes I’m kind of old) we may not have known, or fewer people knew and it took much longer. Ironically enough for Hinderer to go after a little guy with TRANSPARENT in his DBA name.

You seem to be a very honest person so whether people agree with you or not you can at least sleep at night knowing you don’t try to deceive people. Keep on putting out content and be who you are and you can’t miss. I will be following you with interest and hope you continue to do well. Good luck with your channel!✌🏻😎

Rick has the money, it not metal issues it's power issues from being able to talk terrible to people and act a fool for so long and get away with it... his knives still sell out instantly and so long as that happens he will continue to act just how does. MC is not gonna do anything that can hurt his pocket. I don't know how anyone can watch him to be honest. I just can't watch him. STEVE is FUCKING AMAZING, I love him. If people would follow his foot steps heads would get rolled and bullshit in our community would stop.

Last couple of times I tried watching him he mainly bitched about commenters feedback. I wish I could remember what exactly the feedback was about, but yeah I noticed he seems to do that a lot. I don’t like knife reviewers in general. Most of them don’t and won’t use their tools. I don’t want an opinion from a freaking collector but a user. I see these people posting pics of their knives that still have the factory edge on them and they’ve had the blade for a while. Knives are fun to use and no you don’t have to live in the middle of no where to be able to use them.

Hinderer sold out to ZT. His Triway is a new idea, but uses ZT bearing technology. His knives have more problems now than he did when he was running on teflon. You're right that most major youtubers are silent on the topic of knifemakers selling out. Some knifemakers are just assholes after the $$$

It's was a "small" Community at the time, now, here is a lot of new peoples and a lot of them aren't good people. Mentality are changing. Knives is a juicy business and of course when money come on the table a lot of bad thing can happen. Now on your point of view on M.C I can understand it but I understand him too. I would have done the same, I don't care at all about other. He is where he is because he is who he is and I like what he does because of this, and you can't force him do change or choose a camp. At least it's my point of view. RHK for exemple, I dont' like what he have done I can totally see wich kinda horrible guy he is, but again my XM-18 is the best fit and finish/action out of the boxe I've ever got, so I can't tell bad thing about it. I don't stand with RHK and I don't stand with tranparentknives either I don't know his work, I've never handle anything from him and I don't know him. So can't tell anything. So I stand for no one execpt myself I don't care about what other people think I do what I want I support who I want and like. Again this Is My point of view and i'am happy to see what you are Thinking about all this. Honesty is Always a good thing to ear. (Sorry for my terrible english) Have a knife day from 🇫🇷

My xm-18 came with pretty bad detent lash right out of the box, and dull as hell. I tried to warranty it, and they told me that I drilled into my detent hole to make it bigger. They called me a liar, they didn't fix their mistake. I love hinderer designs, but I will never buy one again. I honestly hope hinderer falls. Treating his customers as liars, and thieves is horse sh!t. I'm not rich, I have to save up for knives, and if I'm gonna pay 425 dollars for a knife, and 100 dollars for a Micarta scale then that company should stand by their f-ing product.

Congratulations! You have now learned enough to see under the carpet. This is nothing new. Same in the Custom Knife World. For years I made knives and had no idea the behind the scenes politics and back stabbing that was going on. And then it happened. My name hit the Collectors in a big way. I was called the heir to the throne. The made man. And the vultures came out in droves. Jealousy, envy, haltered, it all came in spades. I was shocked. Some of the talking heads on Blade Forums were some the worst. Some on the forums were nasty! Particularly two dealers. One in Georgia and one in Arkansas. Said that my knives would never go up in value. (Of course this was after they tried to convince me to make either one of them my exclusive dealer, which of course I had been pre-warned abut them and already had a couple thousand orders). Long story short, my knives soared in value and stayed there. Had to quit due to my Wifes life threatening disease and had to become her full time care giver. Which I did gladly. These crooks even tried to convince me to leave her. Saying I had worked too hard for too long and should not give it up. I ask you, what kind of man would abandon family in their greatest time of need. What kind of man would abandon family for money and fame. The vultures attacked instantly. And used social media to do it. None ever told the truth as to why I disappeared. Not one! So now, my name is ruined. Would I do it again? Yes I would. Yes, I sometimes live in shame because of it. But it is what a man does. Family is more important than any amount of money and fame. My mentors, Mr. Bob Loveless and Mr. Jim Merritt understood perfectly and agreed that it was the only course I could take. And they had put a lot into our association and it had it caused us all three of us a lot of time and effort. Mostly all because of the greed of some very well known high end dealers and collectors. So yes, I am very aware of the back stabbing, lies, innuendo, money grabbing back room politics. have been for a very long time. KnifeMaker
