I live in one of those city’s and it’s horrible; the guest who was speaking is an oxymoron.. I hear gun shots every night, drive byes all walking distance from me, car jacking by pistol.. it’s crazy; first time in my life living here that I’ve heard gun shots pretty much every night, drive byes, car jacking; none of this stuff used to happen not even 5 years ago... it’s absolutely crazy; the stores next to my house have all had to highten security because there were people stealing things and breaking in at night like they’ve never seen before.

This is more about human nature and our bias toward negativity than the algorithm itself. People are easily manipulated because they focus too much on the negative. Negativity helps the organism survive but at the cost of happiness and today we create more problems this way because that mechanism is not as relevant in modern times. I was creeped out and knew something was wrong close to 20 years ago when the Facebook logo being on literally every product felt very orwellian and I was seen as some kind of contrarian weirdo for refusing something that I found annoying due to overwhelming (possibly even lightly traumatizing, but I had PTSD from forced treatment and other factors before that) exposure to the brand. Other trends that were so invasive that it felt like torture through repetition were Skrillex wubs in every song around 2015 or so (which also cause me physical discomfort by making my ears twitch like bad ASMR), and the original wave of Pokémon in 1998 or so, where I was forced to see 18 Pikachus twice a day on the bus ride to and from school even if I did literally nothing else but sleep. Group think is worse than racism, war, corporate monopolies, and many other modern human evils, as it plays a large part in all of the above.

@@DJ-my1sm Well I say you may not know what you want but never seen before. But that maybe does not change anything ; if something is presented to you, you're in the present, and you make the choice right now "Do I want it, do I not want it", "Should I go by what I want, or what I need". Once you know how it works, you play around it, it's like a very powerful drug, a psychedelic drug. It can lead you to great things only if you can handle it and use it with responsibility. You would not give it to a teenager anorexic girl like mentioned in the video, but once you matured enough and knows how to handle it, or believe you can, it can show you great things. You just need to master the will to stop and manage your consumption, wich is very hard depending on where you come from (I can speak for myself).

Bingo! But YT wants to run s***, like everyone else. Make kids stupid now, and control them later. This is why I blame parents. Stop being “friends”, be parents! I was afraid of my dad growing up, because he struck fear into me. Later in life we actually fought, because he wasn’t playing, nor was I. After I grew up, I realized he really cared (comparing his ways, to other kids and their parents, and how those kids are today). He wanted me to be solo, depend on NO one. Not a friend, not a girl, not even my own family. After his passing (rip), which was too soon, I have to live with the burden I cannot praise him for being right. I cannot tell him how much I appreciate every little thing he did. I believe in God, so I know he sees me, but I just want to tell him how much it means to me now, but I can’t. I’m 29 now, and he died 7/8 years ago do to cancer. But I thank God, he never bent the knee, he NEVER gave allowance (because the food, and roof he was providing, were my allowance). He didn’t buy me the nicest clothes. He said if I want it, I NEED go get it. And I did. It pushed me to achieve. I’m not the richest, not even close. But I pride myself in being solo. I promise, no matter the high, or the low, I will raise my kid the same way. Because I want them to take care of, and think for, themselves.

Exactly. Everything this guy says is common sense. It was obvious that we were going down this path years and years ago. I’m stunned Joe is acting like this information isn’t totally self-evident. He knows it and has benefitted from it. He brags all the times about how huge his show has become while he never advertised it once. He acts as if the growth was almost an accident or monte too so... but he he chooses what he discusses and who it talks to. He has to be making at least some of those decisions based on KZitem and social media engagement data. Anyway, the issue is real. The solutions will be complex and painful to many powerful businesses and institutions. So it’s unlikely they will be implemented any time soon, if ever. We’re almost completely fucked.

@Khaled Rapp Perhaps, but in the beginning it was being done with an ethic. There were lines that were understood not to be crossed, because it was known that they would cause problems. That was known and agreed upon. THAT'S the agenda that changed. Not what the goal was, but rather how it was being done. But then the ever-present pressure of continuous growth forced that to change, and we have what we have today.

youtube is absolutely insane for having so much of its platform run by algorithms, from the partner program to reccomendations. Long ago, youtube should have developed a tiered partner system. Once thresholds are met you begin to gain more and more control of your content, what advertisers you want to work with, which demographic you want to target, etc. This is such a simple solution and would work with far less problems than leaving everything to a ultra experimental complex algorithm. They jumped the gun and tried to innovate where it wasnt necessary.

5:23 is the feeling I had when I found out these social networks are designed around sucking us in and distracting us from what's important, not only that they are collecting a plethora of information off the viewer, but also we are falling into unproductive lives. I tend to check all my social medias once per week, that's what I have been doing lately and have been trying and it has been working, signing out for a week is not the end of the world. And how much more effective you are and productive in everyday, day to day life, its phenomenal, because your able to turn down all that constant noise and actually live a meaningful life. Now KZitem on the other hand I still spend time on, and it is a waste of time. Especially due to this covid rn everyone is distracting themselves from reality and its kind of scary. Technology is by far our greatest resource and if we use it wisely, us the viewer, we can learn a lot from it. We should be using it to further our knowledge and advance everything in society even further, not using it as a distraction, and also not relying on tech soooo much that its a crutch. KZitem, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM they are all resources, use them like you would any other resource, only for what is needed, use them to learn. Twitter is good for quick updates on things, KZitem is the hub of anything digital you want to hear or even the news, Instagram, mainly used for your "social life" which is fine, doesn't mean you got to like everyone's posts though constantly and scroll. Answering DMs and stuff is fine, don't scroll and compare yourself to others, if your looking for inspiration, search the rocks Insta or jockos, or joes even, get inspired. What I'm getting at is use what we got wisely and use your time wisely, constantly be learning from all types of resources, people, tech, books, etc.
