I think EVH’s next big opportunity is to just make a simple 1 channel amp that recreates the brown sound. It’s what half the fans would want and it’s not redundant to their other products.

That’s a great idea actually all of the modern modded Plexi offerings are so expensive like the Friedman Plex looks awesome and I guess it’s cheaper than an actual Plexi but if they could do a single channel Plexi brown sound amp and keep it at or below 1000 dollars they would probably sell like crazy.

I think overall the amp sounded fairly decent I've had it for a few days and the only complaints I have is that the volume controls seemed really weird... Example being I can have the gain at 3 of 10 and if I turn the channel volume anything past 2 & 1/2 I basically need earplugs... It doesn't seem to be a very linear switch which doesn't make a lot of sense because they fixed the issue that flag the previous presents control and now it is spread over the entire range but the volume seems completely buggered. I only got to try the 1 x 12 cab - I think I would need at least a 2 by 12 or 4 by 12 to truly appreciate this amp. The one by 12 just wouldn't cut it for me.

I think the "iconic" has created big expectations. But the amp never really kept up with that expectation. It's not a block letter from the get go. You can get it there (close enough for me), but it's not what you might think regarding the implications with the name and the visuals of the amp. I guess evh just wants to get the el34 out there as an option for those who are interested, without creating the same discrepency again. By the way, i'd love to see a video about the mod!

I use the current Iconic as my live rig. It's perfect for live, touring etc, cos it is more than powerful enough, sounds great in a live setting and is cheap. Due to it being so cheap for the quality of sound, I don't have to stress too much about it getting damaged, stolen or blowing up, cos it's much more easily replaced than even a 5150iii 50watt (which are twice the price where I live).

If this is the tweaked preamp deal like those, pairing this with a Marshall or an Orange is going to be... TASTY. I prefer 6L6s, fell in Love with EL84s in My Lanie Ironheart, but I’m a total Rectifier Nerd! 2nd Channel (orange) BURN! Pushed with a TS is My grail tone. These days I pretend I have every amp I’ve ever dreamed of because of the technology these days. What I miss the most out of software/digital and analog vs Tube is the smell of the Tubes, the glow, the attack and unforgiving nuances in playing, and the power! If I were to go back to Tube Amps (I sold all of them) it would be a Randall Modular or Synergy Amps. I want the treadplate, pitbull, and a fender clean! Or an Uberschall, Ultra, man I love all of them. I’m off topic but I could rarely ever get a good sound out of 5150s or 6505s. I’m probably dialing them in wrong, but I get way too Lost in the mix. Almost “tinny” sound with unusable Gain. Don’t kill Me I just never meshed well with them. I want to Love them but…., 😅😢

no, it would be stupidly expensive because the transformers are not spec'd for EL34 and the tube sockets are not wired for them, so you'll have to find a competent tech who can replace the transformers and rewire the tube sockets to properly accept and utilize the EL34 power tubes.

Call me cynical, but I wouldn't be surprised if the two variations were voiced differently, beyond just the subtle difference changing the valve type would make. It's a damned shame that they just didn't release these amps as 50/60 Watt class, aka, just a pair of power tubes. Having a quartet of power tubes in this amp, being the power transformer and output transformer underspec'ed for 100/120W class, just does NOT make sense justifying the expense of swapping a quartet of power tubes when the time comes, when they are VERY under utilized (biased as cold as possible, running lower voltages to reduce power, saving on transformer iron, both PT and OT, also saving on caps by having lower voltage rating). For a beginner, as they market this amp, a pair of tubes would suffice and plenty of power. My full fledged 50/60 Watt class amps have similar size OTs as this amp that runs a quartet of power tubes, don't y'all see the fishiness with this?? They gave you a lot of solid state circuits replacing the tube gain stages, but then stuck in there a quartet of expensive power tubes, saving you preamp tubes that are cheap, when these preamp tubes can last four times as long, at least 😂😂😂 Bad EVH, BAD. I see what you did here.
