I'm in the middle of a songwriting challenge to write a song a week based on a prompt. This week's prompt was "Spider Web." My eldest daughter wanted to write a song about an elephant who wanted to be a spider. Here's what we cooked up together. Hope it makes you giggle. We had a blast.
The Elephant and the Spider
There once was born a tiny baby elephant
Whose name was Jimmy Johnny Gerald Jones
Who had a dream the he would one day be a spider
All in spite of his big feet and trunk-y nose
So spin your web Jimmy Johnny Gerald Jones
Don’t worry that you’ve got four legs too few
Keep wrapping things in twine
And saying flies taste mighty fine
To prove wrong all of the ones that laugh at you
There once was born a big fat baby spider
Whose name was Timmy Tony Tater Tot
In spite of spindly legs and tiny toes-es
Well, he tried to be an elephant a lot
So stomp your feet Timmy Tony Tater Tot
The ground may not be shaking when you do
Keep chomping those peanuts
And wearing sticks that you call tusks
To prove wrong all of the ones that laugh at you
(Then) one day Jim Johnny came upon Tim Tony
Tim Tony tried to stomp Jim Johnny flat
But it only caused the two of them to giggle
‘Cause a spider’s not so good at making elephants go splat
No,a spider’s not so good at making elephants go splat
So dream your dreams
And I don’t mean to be cruel
But be careful trying to be someone you’re not
God made you shaped like you
So then the best thing you can do
Is start right there and follow Him with what you’ve got
God made you shaped like you
So then the best thing you can do
Is start right there and follow Him with what you’ve got
(So) now our heroes are the bestiest of buddies
All elephant, all spider through and through
(But) if you visit them on every other Thursday
You might just find them all dressed up
And maybe acting kind of strange
You might just find them both pretending to be you
