Perturabo hopes for the best, but prepares for the worst. But if you reason your way through every possibility, all the time, that eventually takes its toll on any human being, Perturabos ability to calculate eventually overwhelms his ability to hope. Moreover, because he is seen as calculating by everyone and because of his title of Lord of iron, combined with his strong desire not to be a disappointment, he portrays himself as calculating and is seen as calculating by others. Its no wonder he fell - even the most calculating of his brothers had something or someone to treat him as a man, rather than a machine. Tale well told, Skald.

Of all the Traitor Primarchs, Perturabo was the only one who had a just cause to rebel. His sons were being sent to be slaughtered in their thousands in sanity destroying, mind-numbing sieges. Perturabo's mind was as brilliant as any of the other Primarchs, yet he was never allowed to show his peers what wonders he was capable of creating. Instead he was considered nothing more than a beast of war, and he wen't deeply under-appreciated by all of the Imperium. Sadly Games Workshop went the way of making Perturabo into a Daemon Primarch. If you ask me, his story would be infinitely more compelling if he had remained "mortal" (as mortal as a Primarch can be any way). This especially also plays into the idea, that Perturabo is the only Traitor Primarch that can be redeemed.

Mortarion chose to save his chapter rather than let it perish needlessly. I'm willing to bet that a single conversation with him before that moment about the importance of sacrifice for the greater good would have given him the courage to hold on to the last man... but apparently the emperor didn't think that was something you should have to tell a Primarch that has serious daddy issues. He's watching his family rot in their armor and is given a way out. I think thats about as much of a just cause as any. It wasn't a strike against the emperor as much as him taking up the responsibility for his chapter in place of the Emperor. If the emperor himself had been in that situation, what would he have done? Blameless I say!

This scene of him climbing the mountain is a great metaphor for Iron Warriors doctrine, he climbs the mountain no matter the injury, altitude sickness or hypothermia. He's set his mind on the objective, and nothing will come between him and it. He's absolutely smart enough to go about this another way but it's like subconsciously he's decided the most efficient way is to drag himself up the mountain driven by emotion rather than logic. The Emps is a great psyker, and during the height of the Great Crusade he was almost a minor god powerwise. But he was no Tzeentch, and even in all his wisdom and might, he could not forsee all possibilities, for the warp currents are way to chaotic at this time to be able to do it. So yeah, he screwed big time in some things because he gambled big, though I think he underestimated the dangers of the warp and the ability to withhold such information from even his Primarchs.
@dontmindme3794

I'm willing bet that he couldn't see everything, couldn't clearly see what was to come through one reason: He had to power the Astronomicon for the Great Crusade all through out as the Imperium needed it for safe passage within warp travel. I'm guessing that it drained him a good deal, enough to cloud his foresight as he needed its light to stretch across the galaxy. At some cases he could guess of what come of his sons, be confidant in some of them, or hope for the best in others as he went along to do his projects or join the Great Crusade here and there for some campaigns. That's just me though.

It can be argued that Perturabo would’ve stayed loyal if not for the insurrection on Olympia. After Perturabo and his legion massacred the population, Perturabo broke down mentally and was at his weakest point. Horus took advantage of this, he congratulated the Iron Warriors for their actions and manipulated the Legion into joining his rebellion.

The Emperor was the embodiment of humanity throughout 30k timeline even if laden with secrets I think he cared for his sons. The time in the golden throne had robbed him of that humanity.

I honestly think that Emps knew what was going to happen but didn't really know details. I think he knew that he was going to be betrayed by some of his sons but didn't know exactly who.

And yet with some, did nothing to address their concerns (e.g. Horus' constant imposter syndrome when made Warmaster) or grievances (e.g. Angron and Perturabo) and with others (e.g. Lorgar) practically _drove_ them away from him? 🤔 Does he even know who Alpharius/Omegon are?

14:00 That the Custodians raised the arms and the emperor being sad may hint at the primarks which got killed off , maybe one of them reminded him of peturabo and the custodians having a dejavu raised there weapons , feeling they have to kill of a third son of the emperor

Is the emperors entire golden appearance just a psychic manifestation, but in reality just a normal stature with immense powers?
@wolflordrho
4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. I like most people always envisage him similar size to his primarchs. But the Emperor can actually control his appearance with his powers. Essentially beneath it all, he is just a man.
@silversurfer8818

I thought the Emperors ability to manifest his golden appearance worked similar to the pariah gene and its aura nullifying effect. Which may be why Corax initially, at his first encounter with the Emperor perceived him as unremarkable - But as the Emperor moved closer, Corax could no longer fight back the grandeur appearance of the Emperor. As the pariah gene was artificially engineered, could the Emperor have done the same to his "obeisance gene". It would be much easier to gather followers if all of his subjects reflexively kneels before him. The main facts that would rebut this hypothesis would be his wargear, his Sword now held by Guilliman is huge, much larger than any hand some unremarkable human could ever wield. Could he instead, at least to his sons manifest himself as a regular human to be less imposing?
@vortex_1336

Probably. There is an interaction with a psyker where he sees the emperor as just an old man.

Okay, Rho, I love your videos! But, bro, that sentiment, "He was sad because they were weapons of war..." is literally crazy. You are attributing soft-hearted traits to a warlord. There are plenty of examples in which a MERE WORD from the Emperor, ONE WORD, could have saved LOTS of innocent lives. Yet, he never has. Not once. (To my recollection.)

For some reason I imagine TTS Perturabo's voice coming across as a drama queen Super Mario, as he is a jealous, petty Leonardo da Vinci in space. A multi-talented superhuman, but who has brothers who specialize in the other avenues better (crafting, art, philosophy, etc.) and is tasked with the mundane. The Emperor: "Dorn, build me a palace fortress. Guilliman, calculate the strength it should be, work schedules and arrange for logistics. Fulgrim and Sanguinius, get the best artwork to wow the crowd. Lorgar, you get to write the opening day speech. Horus, show up for the opener at my side. Vulkan and Ferrus, use your smithing skills to augment the palace. Mortarion, look for places for our troops to congregate and for biochem warfare issues. Jag, vehicle testing and requisition. Lion, black ops quarters. Magnus, psyker communications and library. Alpharius Omegon and Corax, figure out how it could be broken into and sabotaged. (Looks at other sons) Uh, Russ, Angron, entertainment. I know one of you will supply booze and the other a fighting pit for the crowd's amusement. Konrad, dungeon specifications and give an artistic idea for something that imposes the law and scares the normals -- not too gory, though. Perturabo ... you handle its plumbing."

I think that Perturabo has an anxiety disorder. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Which leads to depression. Some of what he says and does suggests it. Plus him going to negative. His excessive calculating. I think Olympia stunted or led to a "perturbed" emotional development of this particular Primarch.

of all the traitor primarchs I find Perturabo,Magnus, and Angron to be the most tragic and unfortunate cases. All Perturabo wanted was the love of his father and recognition which he honestly deserved not more than his brothers but as well as them. he should be viewed as great as Rogal because he is. he is the perfect complement to Dorns defensive mindset. The Iron Lord's Offensive capabilities even surpassed Dorns IMO. but He was denied that and for no good reason really. it's heart breaking

You gotta think what Perturabo could have become. That unmoving forward bastion - as opposed to the Praetorian protecting the home system - conquering the most brutal and stiff resistance, challenging the enemies of the Imperium to fight back as if saying "Come! Break yourselves upon my fortifications and the might of the Imperium. Face now, the Lord of Iron." And perhaps provide safety in his creations for those most downtrodden living on hostile worlds, who might finally see their saviour as not just a machine of war but a great man worthy of laurels.

After reading Angel Exterminatus I believe that if the Emperor had reached out to him and forgave him for the decimation of Olympia he would have walked away from the Heresy. I dont't think he would have turned against Horus at least not at first but I can see him maybe going back to Olympia for finding a new world and just building his perfect society. I don't believe that would last either.

New-ish to the 40K, but I am consuming the lore as fast as I can. Next to Dune and Vorkosigan saga this is for me one od the best setings in fiction. But there is one thing I just cant figure out... Can custodes take on a primarch? And I mean a fully trained primarch after he is "trained" and intergrated?

Is it just me, or did the Tyrant of Dammechos genuinnely cared for Perturabo? Sure the was the ulterior motive of having him be a wonder weapon, but he was still seen as family? It adds to the tragedy of Perturabo because he was loved evn before Big E arrived but he just couldn't accept it.

He had the most advanced mind, how could he not remember clearly his father's words and the emotion he felt upon hearing those words for the first time....So many people say all he needed was a good job, but I really can't believe that...They tried writing it out, but honestly, his fall is the worst of them all, makes the least sense, and is most distant from his character. They really should fix him even more by instilling a deep hatred of Chaos in him. An elevated being filled with chaotic powers sure, for ALL of the Primarchs are essentially warp creatures bound to flesh by the Emperor's special genetic manipulations....but still they could have fleshed out this inner turmoil and that connection Perturabo always had to the Eye and to Chaos as a way for him to fall, then redeem himself not as a loyalist but as a rogue element also Anathema to Chaos, a 'baby' Emperor if you will or as I read someone else right the Dark Omnissiah.

Perturabo and the iron warriors are by far the most over looked legion and primarch. Dull grey w/hazard lines.. makes them dull but once you dig into them. Iron Warriors are absolutely bad ass. Raises a middle finger to Chaotic mutation and constantly "shaving off" mutation, have the secret to the Obliterator virus, has a strong bond with the Dark Mechanicum and Titan Legions. If there was one "legion" to join as a renegade, it would be the iron warriors. Sure you probably die of friendly artillery fire but damn those guys are more and more bad ass when you read about them
