As someone who has to drive 400+ miles to visit family on the weekends I just adore my Lotus Evora S, no other Lotus could've made these long travels possible with being as comfortable. Ofc it's not as light as an Elise or Exige but it handles brilliantly and still feels like a Lotus. The Emira will probably be a worthy successor, only weighing 100 something pounds more. For the Exige and Elise, I am faithful that they will find a way to make a light electric sportscar. Who knows, maybe Lotus will pave the way with a new technology that saves weight for future EVs, cause imo that is desperately needed. 2 tons of steel barreling down highways with 1000+ horsepower and insufficient brakes for that amount of speed can only end in calamity. For the SUV, its probably gonna be a Lynk Co with Lotus Badges and some fancy footwork. Hopefully they'll sell well enough to fund the more "Lotus" cars of the company ;)

Hi Mars, thanks for the comment 🤗 and a great comment too, agree with all of your points. The evora is incredible. We have another video with an Evora VS … coming out soon. But such an incredible car and definitely the most comfiest lol. I do hope that when they are finished with the SUV, that they will focus their efforts on their core values and also bring an affordable option like they did with the Elise. We will have to wait and see. Thanks so much for chatting 👍🏽

Great video! I think you’ve captured the fundamental crisis approaching for existing Lotus owners - nothing in the new Lotus range can replace the cars that they made up to 2021. The new cars may be great in their own ways but they will appeal to a very different audience. For many reasons it’s not viable for Lotus to keep making the old cars - emissions, availability of engines, high manufacturing and service costs etc, etc. So unless Lotus is to fade into obscurity they have to reinvent themselves as a more mainstream manufacturer. Such is life.

It's heart-breaking. Sometimes I wish the Elise/Exige or Espirit could be like the VW Golf, it's always there in the manufacturer's line-up but it would get suitably upgraded and moved with the time. Perhaps one day they would bring one of the platforms back.........for now, I will weep quietly in a corner.

I started looking for my Elise S2 111S about a year ago, before they announced that they'd stop production. I chose that particular model because it was the last Elise that was closest to the original concept of the Elise without being an S1. The K-series 160hp engine pulls well low down and sounds gruffy compared to the Toyota engine. It is also devoid of any assists or modes. What I feel was missed in this episode in terms of why I wouldn't go near an electric version of these cars is the mechanical aspect of ICE powered cars with manual gearboxes. Stick, not paddles. The reward of a perfect heel-toe downshift can't be replicated in an electric anything and there are no crutches. Either you have the ability to drive it quickly or you don't, the car won't help you so when you attain that ability you know you are a better driver. You can do something you couldn't before and not everyone can do. It's rewarding. Everything that makes you addicted to driving these machines can't be quantified like top speed or acceleration. The cockpit and low vantage point is an experience I didn't even get in a Ferrari 458 or McLaren520s. They were too civilized. As these guys said, just get one and keep it going!

Ending of the current Lotus range is the end of an epoch. Lotus I suspect will never make a car again weighing less than 1000Kg & the Emira at 1400Kg isn’t even close to being lightweight (very doubtful that the AMG version will be any less than the V6). Accepting that all cars are heavier today than they were 50 years ago, rather shows the trend going forward especially when EV’s arrive. I love powerful small lightweight open top sports cars & the Emira isn’t that or ever will be. The Chinese have captured a brand with the depth of history to rival Ferrari & doubtless they’ll exploit that & sell enough cars (SUV’s or sport cars) to make huge profits, but for my money there should be a consortium or crowd fund to buy the production rights of the Elise to keep the spirit of real Lotus alive much like Caterham have done since 1973 with the Lotus 7. I’ll stick with my S1 Elise at 725Kg & hope that the 2026 Lotus EV sportscar will be worthy of the Lotus badge.

I agree with you on every point. I believe that Chinese owners have never really understood the 'Lotus spirit' that drives every Lotus owner. Their intention is probably to exploit a famous brand in order to flood the market with a 'mass' product, otherwise how do you explain the expected numbers for Emira? Unfortunately, although the Emira is aesthetically pleasing, its numbers say that it is heavy, underpowered and too expensive for the American market, which I assume is their main target. If I were American, why should I choose an Emira when I can buy a Corvette that is much more powerful, aesthetically pleasing, part of the national tradition and doesn't cost more? Anyway, I consider myself lucky to have been able to buy an Exige 430 Cup before the end of this magnificent adventure. The driving sensations are and always will be unique.

The Emira is almost identical to an Evora under it's reskin, and has the same supercharged V6 engine. Unless you *choose* to buy it with a crappy Merc 4pot. If they invested in a decent gearbox it would compete with pretty much anything because that engine is easily good for 500+ bhp.

congratulations for the video, as far as I'm concerned I hold on to my Lotus Elise s220 CR, a unique car that gives emotions to every meter traveled, with the absence of the power steering and sitting 1.5 cm from the ground on an aluminum frame of the weight of 68 KG and held together by aerospace glue .. feel the road every use change of slope feels all machines so no more, unfortunately there are more and more heavy and boring cars, nothing to do with the weight power of the Lotus Elise 900 KG inexpensive to maintain magic car.... I'm very worried about Elise \ Exige \ Evora's departure. ok now there is the Emira which is still a Lotus even if it weighs a lot 1450 KG 450 Kg more than the Exige despite having the same Toyota V6, but then what will happen when the Lotus SUV or the electric cars come out, by removing the Elise you give up to a large percentage of people who thanks to the Elise 1.6 with 40k you could have a Lotus with 64k you could get an Elise s220, while for the Emira you need 100k, the new Lotus will be able to afford them only people with a lot of money but then how can you make an SUV lightweight that respects the Lotus brand? it is impossible and even worse with the electric ones given the weight of the batteries, the Chinese in my opinion will do some damage, the Lotus Elise \ Exige was born thanks to the Italians Romani Artioli,

They could keep making cars like this, Caterham get away with it by being a "low volume" manufacturer. But Lotus want to expand massively and compete with Porsche etc, so they won't. There are rumours they might make the Elise design public, so any manufacturer can make them. Which is how Caterham got going with the 7 based cars. But re-producing the Elise chassis might be difficult.
