Thankyou Nugget for giving us the privilege of watching the end of Kutere's life. This is very sad, must be terrible for the owner. Bob, Lower Hutt.

More damage was inflicted on that classical, 26 ton, wooden, double planked fishing boat by those machines operators, than through beaching it as the skipper did. The manner the machine handled lifting the knee of the keel at the bows, ( cutwater) at 5:00 is no manner how to handle a classical wooden fishing boat. In my opinion, that classical traditional wooden boat was very easily repairable, but probably the local council wanted it out of the way immediately, as it was considered to be an eyesore by those who do not love traditional boats and the skills of its builders and their crews who work so hard on them, to feed us. The water line damage is shown at 8:15 and that on the underside shown at 21:35 could easily have been repaired, The scene at 16:41 suggests double diagonal planking, not a carvel planking, and that made her a powerful boat that would take some punishment, which it did, the poor girl. Those machine operators could have known better. The damage shown at the bows at 17: 58 was all done by the machine operator in the manner he lifted the bows with the sharp edges of that hydraulic machine. We live in a modern world of efficiency and finances and all the romance and family skills have vanished and we became a disposable society..... where even partners in marriage dispose of each other periodically! and even children are now regarded as a burden rather than a blessing! We are deprecating many values where we know the price of everything and the value of nothing! She was a powerful boat to handle broaching the way it did in this video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/pJqg4KGEpouZlWU

I'm still trying to comprehend why they didn't just get a salvage tug and pull her back out to sea. My guess is that they wanted the insurance money to get out of the game.

Does anyone know or heard of a similar boat called the Karamoana (sp) that was based in Wanganui in the 70's and 80"s that then went down south somewhere, Greymouth I think.
