It throws me back in the Middle Ages, in a small village where people are genuine and where I live with my loved one; we are watching the sunset together, hugging, knowing that that kind of happiness won’t last forever and enjoying every bit of the life we are given, finding comfort in that kind of sorrow…and suddenly it starts raining, and the rain falls gently over our heads, but we stay there, humming this haunting and lovely melody, sharing the few moments we are given before the bell tolls for us

The theme of the album prequelle is based off the black plague. This segment of this song helps me imagine something Picture this: as this segment is playing, you’re in a forest of dead trees. No leaves at all. The ground covered in ash as the flakes gently fall around you from the skies as a result of the devastation this plague hath brought The skies are covered with dark gray clouds that even the sun cannot break through. Darkness overtakes the land as you’re filled with sadness and misery. The trail is lined with the bodies of corpses. Some reaching for the skies begging God to take their souls from the hellish agony they endured. Their last breaths were that of pain as God did not save them. They were taken into the depths of the abyss as they’re surrounded by the ashes that Hell brought upon the land. Their souls consumed by fire with their haunting screams muted by smoke. You can only imagine you will be next as you venture through the trail knowing that death awaits you. Your body weakens as you continue onwards hoping that there truly is salvation amongst the plague. Perhaps there truly is a path to healing from this horrible plague. You fear you may just be another soul lost forever to Satan’s grasp on Earth. The strength to walk, run, or even breath grows even weaker. Death must have come early. However, you see the silhouette of a gothic style cathedral at the end of the trail. Your body gains just enough strength to make it to the church. But is it enough? The bells of the cathedral ring. They grow louder as you get closer and gain more strength in your legs to finish the long walk through darkness and death. Reminded of the stench of rotting bodies and thick smoke and ash. The bells ring louder as you have made it to the last hope for salvation. But in your mind, it may just be a ruse. Your strength deteriorates once more as you entered the cathedral. It is empty and dark. The stain glass windows barely illuminate the pews and the altar. Your body collapses to a feeble crawl towards the altar. You make it to the altar. Your legs are gone. Your vision gets darker. The last thing you see is death itself waiting to take you away. Death speaks only one sentence to you. “This is the moment of just letting go” he said. It was time. Time to let go. One last ring of the bells was heard before darkness consumed you at last. You let go. The suffering has finally ended.

The whole song kinda gives me ballroom dancing vibes, specifically in the medieval era. Like joyful and fun for the first part, where a bunch of people are gathered to dance and have fun for the last time, and then this part, where a maiden slow dances with the love of her life alone in the ballroom together. This part feels bittersweet to me, with a hint of sadness about having to say goodbye, but also a sense of joy that they both have happy memories to look back on, and that they still have that moment together ...This probably made no sense, but ah well 😅
