@datname1939
3 жыл бұрын
That's actually my grievance with the show. They never actually go in on James emotions towards murdering someone which was a bit of a loss. If anyone needs psychological help it's him. Mom committed suicide infront of him, killed animals on a whim, killed a person, got shot, dad died right Infront of him when he was just starting to form that bond they never had. This kid is royally way more fucked up but they don't touch on it as much in season two.
@alanz4819

@@datname1939 it seems like James may be at the start of that process at the end of the show. We see him trying to cope: living out of his car, carrying his dads ashes with him everywhere he goes, trying to make Alyssa the answer to what is the point of all this pain? But by the end, he starts letting go and starts making positive steps. He spreads his dad’s ashes, he develops a healthier relationship with Alyssa, and they are on a more hopeful trajectory.

@@datname1939 it felt natural enough to me, he's still suppressing a whole lot by the end of the show and he's barely even gotten started. james just been dealing with the same old shite for years till he aint really feel much of it yet, so alyssa gets to bear the whole 'get help' arc for the both of em. he's a petrified turd, and will be for a while yet, but alyssa needs the help a lil more urgently

However, while James is eventually redeemed by his love for Alyssa, Bonnie is so starved for love and affection that she's been become a martyr for Clive, and is blind to the fact that he's blatantly using her. Something I noticed: We start Season One having already seen the trailers, so we're more worried about Alyssa than James because we know James. James is the one going through being a sociopath in S1. We start Season Two with Bonnie and Alyssa, and we're worried about James because we don't know what happened. Alyssa is the one going through being a sociopath in S2. Also, in S1, James was going to kill Alyssa but ends up killing Clive Koch to save Alyssa. In S2, we start off immediately with Bonnie, she wants to kill James and Alyssa for revenge. But just like the constant loop, Bonnie ends up killing the motel owner and almost herself. Amazing writing! 😁💯

I really enjoyed this show. For awhile I wasn't quite sure despite my addiction to keep watching it, but over all, I really liked it. The show has a weird way of making you feel empty and happy at the same time. It toys with your emotions, which I wasn't expecting going in, thinking it to be a dark comedy rather then a dark dramedy. Regardless, I felt I left walking away with more than optimistic nihilism. The show reminds audiences the importance of love, empathy, and feeling. A lot of people try to run or hide their feelings, which isn't entirely their fault. In a society that has expected perfectionism and class in the past, and pop culture that sometimes conditions that suppression, it's easy to see why so many become desensitized, nihilistic, and apathetic. When people surpress their emotions so much whether it's because of social conditioning, trauma, or anything else, they lock themselves behind bars that deprive them from being really human. To live life, is to live through sorrow. If a man cannot be willing to open up to sorrow, then they don't open themselves up to love either. For every day an individual experiences pain, another one is filled with greater love or positive emotions then before.

What I love most about this show is that in S1, James and Alyssa found love in each other and that love seems to conquer it all. James realised he wasnt a psychopath and thought he found his answer in Alyssa, his manic pixie dream girl who would solve everything and bring out the best in him. While Alyssa had abandonment issues as a result of not being cared for by any of her guardians; in James, she found someone who’d protect her at all costs, someone who genuinely care for her. Without addressing their traumas, they literally and figuratively ran away from their problems. I love S2 a lot and i know a lot of ppl hated S2’s sombre’s nature. Both Alyssa and James had to face the consequences of their actions and more depressingly, the weight of their trauma head on. Reality hits, love alone cannot conquer everything. You can tell Alyssa was really hurt and heartbroken from the letter, it felt like betrayal while James just wanted to live out that adrenaline from S1 again to “bring back” Alyssa. It goes full circle tbh, minus the Bonnie stuff its a story of a young couple who fell in love because of outrageous situations having to navigate their way after coming down off a high and having to realise that love alone is not enough. Alyssa acknowledging she needs psychological help and James apologising for trying to make Alyssa his answer shows how the 17 yo kids are now ready to take the next step and get better.

I loved season 2 because it teaching you about take responsibility and deal with trauma which helps you in reality. The first season was the opposite and about being hedonistic and doing what you want without dealing with any consequences, which is a fantasy. I knew there were gonna be people who didn't like it because of this contrast because from some people they prefer their film media to stay in the fantasy realm to take a break from/escape reality. They want pleasure so they dont want media dealing with reality issues like season 2 of TEOTFW did

Why does everyone think the ending is perfect ? Can someone please explain this to me ? I don't like how Alyssa sAys she needs a lot of time and stuff. It leaves an open ending and I wish we could see more of their relationship now that they have both gone through all of this stuff. Can we at least have a bonus episode that shows them together like a uear later and how their lives turn out tttttt

To me, it's a fitting end. I suggest not looking at it with rose-tinted glasses because it will make you miss the point of S2; having to face the consequences after what they did in s1 and that there's a healthy way to do that and that you can. It's a wonderful message to a society overrun by pessimism and romanticizing emotional damage. And this is why it was a fitting end.

Although the ending leaves us with a lot of uncertainty, we’re however promised two things: Alyssa and James love each other, and they will never leave one another. To me, that is enough

I think it’s a pretty optimistic ending. When Todd tells her she doesn’t deserve love because she doesn’t know how to treat people, she agrees. She doesn’t want to lose James, and knows she loves him deeply, and doesn’t want her trauma and triggers to ruin what they have or chase him away, so in her own way, she is agreeing to work on herself and get herself to a healthier place so she can be who she thinks James deserves and love him fully.

Talking about the "love" that Bonnie received and took in and didn't question hit way too close to home for me. I very nearly became that cautionary tale, thankfully I came to my senses and learned that's not what love looks like. It's extremely accurate, every time I vent to my mother about my dad my mom always says to me "he loves you very much, you know that right?" For ages now whenever I hear that mentally I say, well if verbal abuse and emotional manipulation are how he shows love or I have to deal with those things to receive his love I DO NOT want it!

There is a third season, you can imagine it yourself! It was so crazy and real how he sees her as someone he wants to kill and then at the end he is shaking in fear that she might have killed herself. This show was amazing and if you have had lots of physical and mental pain in your own life then you really connect with this. Then you realize as you are watching this you are twice their age and haven’t dealt with anything and are craving a relationship of any kind, good or bad. Absolutely brilliant, and I knew a girl that was very similar to Alyssa so it’s like a weird nostalgia you feel through it all. He has a burnt hand, mine are deformed from untreated arthritis, I sat alone at school lunch, I used to skate, was a suicidal psycho I thought, hurt animals, james is my middle name, it’s all too similar to me as a young guy and so I was instantly enveloped by this show.

One thing I noticed was how when Clive Koch was bleeding on the floor, his blood seemed to take on the shape of a heart while Alyssa and James are standing around him. I think that it might be symbolic for how this murder cemented James and Alyssa's love for each other and how they'll always be connected and eventually find each other once they're separated. Or maybe I'm off, idk, what does everyone else think?
