5:12 My favorite bag was a $19.99 plastic one from Ross. It was gray/taupe and went with almost everything. I tried to find label in bag to write to maker but it lasted so many years there were no traces of a legible label. I worked briefly for a store that had a Hermes boutique about 40 years ago. I went to look at the bags because of employee discount but decided they were too matronly-looking. They still are. I think all bags show signs of wear and tear if you use them a lot. Evening bags last more because of less use. I still have 2 Charles Jourdan evening bags in good condition 40 years later.

I’ve come to a crossroads with luxury goods in general. To me buying luxury goods at retail means showing off that I can afford luxury items and I am not that kind of individual that can bring myself to do that. I especially realized this with the latest Chanel fragrance price increase. I realized that there is a bit of snobbery that goes with wearing a Chanel fragrance. The quality of their fragrances now coupled with the latest price increase forces me to become someone I don’t want to be if I were to ever purchase another fragrance from them. Fortunately, I have found that Dior produces decent quality fragrances at decent luxury prices especially with the new Dior Homme line and therefore I don’t feel like I’m putting myself in a certain bracket when purchasing from them. I don’t think I’ll ever purchase a luxury good at retail because I don’t want to feel like that person who can afford said luxury brands. Instead, I’ll be looking into vintage and used items because that way I won’t feel like I’m pretending to be someone I’m not. At least that’s how I think of it at the moment

Totally agree about the end of an era regarding designer/luxury bags. Besides that, I honestly think the very wealthy are buying rare and valuable antiques, artworks, vintage or custom designer furniture, and high jewellery. Or buying property dotted around the globe or investing in social, environmental or political initiatives that they have a personal interest in via philanthropy. These are people who help shape the world we live in, so luxury fashion products don’t have the same significance that they do for those who aspire to be at that level.

I have been feeling the same way because of the quality going down, but the quality is going down everywhere across the board, even in high street stores like H&M. I am struggling to believe that a $50 or $100 bag is of the same quality and luxury feel with an elegant design as a designer bag. I've never been able to find anything close. Even Demellier which is made in the south of Spain and supposed to be high quality, doesn't compare in quality and that's £400. Designer prices are OVERPRICED MASSIVELY, but I haven't found a good alternative in terms of amazing design and nice leather.

For the cost of 1 obscenely high cost product of cringe quality, they may flex and exchange it several times times before before settling on acceptable product and may be compensated with higher value or priced items.

Yep, it's not just you, I've been seeing other KZitemrs talk about it. It's the brand that they are selling, but the product itself is so badly made. Now I think there are certain designers that may not be well known, but has high quality stuff exists but they are not many.

I was in to Burberry becaouse I'm a sacker for plaid . Burberry maybe not the most expensive one but not cheap . I bought one more then 10 years a go I got the shoes umbrera belt and so on (I got little kuku there). I love the things I got but I would never buy anything that expensive again becaouse my priority have changed. I want my family health roof over my head I just grew up. And also it maybe depends where people live and what they do for work. Me for instance I don't have places to wear that expensive things I don't like to show of I don't want people to be jealous (and believe me they are)I don't need all that weerdnes. However I do appriciete well dressed women with expensive bag it's aesthetyclly pleasing to me. 🙅
