Ok. So I’m gonna pin this comment to explain why I’m so sure this was a shoot down via missile. Now to be clear it could be an Air to Air or Surface to Air missile, but given we haven’t seen any VKS air activity near Moscow my bet is still firmly on a SAM. So, why don’t I think it’s a bomb? First, the cabin is intact. When you see the aircraft falling the fuselage is completely intact, there is no breakup of the aircraft nor do we see any gaping holes. If the bomb was mounted in the cabin or in the baggage hold at the aft of the airframe. We would see signs of explosive decompression, however we don’t see any. The aircraft fuselage along with the cabin remained pressurised and in one piece until impact. Second. The damage to the vertical stabiliser. If you look at the tail of the aircraft, it was sheared almost completely off like someone went at it with an axe. There would be no way to mount a bomb on that flight surface without anyone noticing it, either visually or the pilot noticing an irregularity with the flight controls. Furthermore the damage to the vertical stabiliser shows evidence of shearing and fragmentation damage as shown in the video. Third. The fragmentation damage, in several photos of the wreck you see clear signs of shrapnel holes in the aircraft. Now this can happen in an explosive decompression or in a crash. If it wasn’t for the fact that the splaying of the metal was on the interior surface. Ergo the shrapnel came from outside. If the bomb was in the baggage hold it would have blown the entire rear of the aircraft off. If not split it in half. Again. I’m 90% sure on this. But good luck proving it.

Only other possibility worth considering would be an uncontained engine failure. Those CAN send shrapnel outward, but from my limited experience that's usually blades from the engine, and those would leave a much larger hole. The reported lack of maintenance could cause such a failure, but the detachment of aircraft surfaces doesn't track with this, especially the entire wing. From the video where we can see the plane flat spinning to the ground, missing a wing, we can rule out in-flight breakup, since those, in my experience, happen during a nose dive. The video doesn't really match with any accident I've ever read/seen about. And, since the erj145 seems to have hydraulic fuses, the white fluid mist around the aircraft is most probably fuel.

Russians are a people who are completely accustomed to being told how to think about, what they are told to think, it has been reinforced in their psyche through brutalism, to our Western sensibilities Putin's methods are deplorable, for a Russian it is representative of the ideals instilled in the national mindset. Russians must be the only people on the Planet that think being treated like shit is some kind of badge of honour, the more bullshit they buy into, the more they are convinced that everything is, as it should be.
@gchampi2

@@guywholikesplanes The effect of losing the horizontal stabilizer would be an immediate & rapid uncontrolled nose-up maneuver, putting the aircraft at nearly 90 degrees to the airflow. The aerodynamic loading from this would massively overload the wing spar, causing the loss of the wing & opening the fuel system to atmosphere. Gravity does the rest. As for the bomb-on-board theory, that doesn't fit the evidence. If a bomb was in the pressure cabin, it would've caused a comprehensive disintegration of the airframe, with parts of the plane spread over a wide area (see the Lockerbie bombing for reference). If there was a bomb placed somewhere within the tail (outside the pressure cabin), the engines would've been removed from the airframe along with the vertical stabilizer, and there would most likely have been a fuel fire visible from the tail of the falling craft. As there was no fire until impact, and the engines were visible in the wreckage footage, that pretty much rules out any bomb on board. Given all that, a missile strike is the only plausible conclusion. As there were no reports of military jets in the area, a SAM strike is the most likely cause.

@@inquisitionagent9052 To be honest, I don't think even Clancy could have predicted this. If this were a Clancy book, Ukraine would have been steamrolled, and Western Europe would have been facing a Russian military that gets annihilated by the latest and greatest of high tech American firepower, saving the day after some Rommel myth Russian commander, who stands out from the nefarious and incompetent leadership either dies or betrays the bad guys. The real Russia is barely holding on to a fifth of a nation that it should by all rights totally eclipse militarily, losing to a force utilizing weapons and technology that at its latest is of the PS3 era, whose leadership is back to front incompetent and whose best soldiers are mostly contained in a group of hired thugs who somehow botched the biggest armored push to Moscow since Barbarossa, led by a man who is such a genius he thought he'd be okay with the notoriously defenestration-prone Putin after trying to pull that stunt because he was about to get fired. Some important things to note: 1. Any "opinion poll" from Russia is between a) do you like Putin and b) do you want to get in trouble? They in no way reflect the real opinions of the people. 2. VK is officially censored and monitored by the authorities so you will get in trouble for posting anything against as well. 3. Telegram groups are echo chambers. If you choose to visit Z- channels, that's what you will get. If you choose to visit anti-war channels, that's what you will get. The two crowds do not mix.

After hearing this news, I'm somewhat curious to see how Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games may implement this into MWIII once it releases, since the Konni Group is based off of Wagner Group (much like how Shadow Company is based off of Blackwater). Since it's slated for release in November, I doubt we'll see it in the main campaign, but it might be featured in future battle passes and raids. At this point, what's stopping them? They already pissed off the Russians with MW2019 by showing the Russian military under General Barkov's leadership committing war crimes against Urzikstan.

The shrapnel holes were much, much smaller than what was seen on the MH-17 wreckage. This makes me think that the missile had a much smaller warhead - or a warhead that featured much smaller shrapnel. I’m more inclined to believe that it was an air-to-air missile. I know what you said about no fighters reported to have been in the area but those very small holes makes me think that maybe they kept something off the books. I do wonder if a single or a pair of aircraft ripple fired just to be sure and then they both ended up hitting in close proximity.

The guy will wake up from his coma 9 years later in a Cyprus hospital, then build a new PMC and eventually the military nation. Kojima’s prophecy is yet to be fulfilled. How Big Boss started started as friend to Major Zero, how cipher turned big boss into an icon, the two had fallout and become enemies, were so similar to what happened in real life. Although I will say Prigozhin’s role is more like Kaz and Ultkin is more similar to big boss, so Kojima’s story is slightly off.
