The Beat at their peak on third and last album. One of the most lyrically impenetrable songs ever written !

This song is great, of course, but this enthusiastic audience is the real standout of this clip.

I was lucky enough to see them in Rochester NY. They had a bigger stage and really rocked out.

Hard song to do live. Something magic happened in the studio with this one. Top ten song of the 80s, maybe all time.

Yes. There songs must be hard to do live beacon the way they harmonize. Dave sings the start of the lyric and Roger fades in to end the lyric. Most of their songs are that way. I did not realize that for years. When you watch their music videos you can see how they sing together. Their lyrics are genius.

Ah, the staging of a live TV performance. Not brilliant. But the song, and The Beat... so very good.

This is my favorite version, different than the official video. And I've yet to hear a cover of this song I haven't liked. I don't suppose the channel can tell us more about this version and the appearance on the show?

Love the dude in the front with the suspect posture just hanging out and doing nothing. Great song, great instrumentation, especially the strings.

I can't tell if its mimed. It looks like it but they seem to be playing the right parts. Amazing footage anyhow.

It's not the studio recording, so if it's mimed they made a whole new recording

There are no monitors, amps , guitar leads , or mics for the sax or strings . I suspect the vocals are live , but the rest of the band are playing to a backing track which would have been easy enough for them to have on hand for this kind of thing .

@@docsavage8640 I'm guessing its just the vocals are live .

It's the classical byproduct of a hypnagogic tambourine. If I've seen it once, I've seen it a thousand times. It's entrancing.
