The English was warm, wonderful, gritty, and a nuanced story. Emily and Chaske were perfectly cast! In fact the casting overall was absolutely superb. One of the best period peace series ever!

This series is beautiful..Best thing on TV for ages, as in a sweeping tale of violence and ultimately a wonderful love story...not gonna lie, wiped a couple of tears away at the end!

The chemistry between the two is out of this world. They are completely believable in the script given to them. At no point did I not completely believe into them as to who they were incarnating on the screen. Compliments to the writer too. There is no good movie without a good story. This one is among the top for that genre!

Emily Blunt is such a gifted actrice, and very adorable. Chaske Spencer was amazing all throughout the series and the love scenes was very moving (and of course we cried in ep 6, who wouldn't).

I'm obsessed with this beautifully done series. The chemistry between Cornelia and Eli is so unique to me. I remember the scene I think E1 or E2 when Eli takes the bow from Cornelia's hand and start flicking the bow string. I noticed that her right hand did the same exact flicking motion his did and stopped at the same time his did! It didn't look like it was part of the script. It looked so natural to me, now that's a connection.

I know Emily Blunt's work but I've never seen Chaske Spencer. Love this guy, looking forward to seeing him in the future. One of the best things about this miniseries was their relationship. It wasn't a boring romantic love story like we're so used to seeing, it was a deep and unconditional friendship. Everything came together for this story. The only negative was the subplots. I watched every episode straight through and found myself getting a little confused. I'll go back and watch it again anyway.

Chaske is a powerhouse. Definitely check out his work before this series like his role in Wild Indian and Shouting Secrets, even his guest roles on different TV series. He's phenomenal and I couldn't be happier that he did this series and worked with Emily. Both of them are incredible!

One aspect that should have been discussed here was the diverse ways that the Indigenous characters found to survive. The audience wasn't allowed to fall into the comfortable stereotypes of Indigenous peoples as hapless victims. I really enjoyed the subtlety of presenting most of the White male characters as almost caricatures, while there was a lot more depth and texture to the Indigenous characters.

Excellent show and stunning piece of artistry. The cinematography is beautiful, the acting intense and powerful. The characters are historic and re-enact the violence of the time yet there is incredible resonance with the modern world. The leads are amazing and both the villainous and wholesome character performances shine also.

I binged watched all the episodes and the last one made me cry for Cornelia and Eli. There was one thing I did not understand. After the couple's brief passionate moment in episode five, Cordelia runs away and covers herself in sand? Why?
@lizannewhitlow1085
Жыл бұрын
She was suffering from the disease and could not risk exposing Eli. She wore gloves to hide the affliction. Her sand bath was an interesting scene and I have to think about that attempt to cleanse herself? Coverup her affliction? I don’t want to name the disease here b/c it’s a spoiler.

My interpretation is that she did it out of frustration and despair - for a brief moment she forgot about her hate, loss and her affliction, and she let herself feel. She lets herself be happy with Eli, but then a short moment later realizes how much she wants to be with him and have a future with him, and how much she cannot have that because of her affliction. Rubbing sand all over her body is her externalizing the frustration of being condemned by her affliction and her horror of almost losing control of her emotions and putting Eli at risk because of it. I think she's trying to get rid of marks of her affliction on her body by furiously rubbing sand, because her affliction is what has caused all the despair and hate in her life, and if only she didn't have it then she could be happy and have a future with Eli. I think Eli, after seeing her covered in dirt, interpreted it as her - a white Englishwoman - being disgusted by the thought of kissing him - a Native American. This was totally not the case, but you can see the disappointment and confusion in his eyes when he sees her covered in dirt the next morning. I'm not sure I'm explaining this well at all, I'm sorry! Emily Blunt puts it really well - Cordelia is like this dichotomy of emotions - revenge and hope, violence and guilt, love and loss. I think this scene showcased that very well.
