Mascots Japan Redesign likely refers to Crash Bandicoot, who was redesignes to be cuter on Japanese Covers and comercials. Fun fact: the Crash Dance originates from Crash 1 commercials from japan, and naughty dog liked it so much they put it in Crash 2 onward.

37:00 Actually, Sony did it 3 times, with the PS3 being about half the price of contemporary Blu-Ray players, which allowed it to still sell decently well in its earlier days before the price drop.

Great video bro! I'm from Brazil and only saw one original black PS1 disc in my entire life (if I remember correctly, it was a Tony Hawk Pro Skater game back in 1999). All PS1 consoles that people buy around here, including the smaller PSone ones, had the capability to run pirated games. This was a big deal since an original N64 cartridge could have the price equivalent to the minimun wage here on those years. A pirated disc was more than 20 times cheaper. Even memory cards and joysticks had cheaper alternatives for people to be able to buy them. These modifications also allow the console to be able to play VCDs, and this created a weird market of PS1 compatible pornography... Some of these pirated games got an unofficial translation too. i remember playing Castlevania SOTN with Portuguese text. In the 90s, only some PC games had Portuguese text. There was also Winning Eleven games (a japanese football/soccer franchise from Konami, that came before to PES) with brazillian clubs and players instead of National teams (similar to Ronaldinho Soccer on the SNES and N64). These was very popular.

Not to mention the most popular console, the PS2, which was never officially launched here, it is still the GOAT, and came modded from sealed boxes, bought in legal stores, (the most rare thing is to find a non modded PS2 in Brazil) 😂 DDR 5 foi minha infância 😂

Great video!! Love that you took the time to correct yourself a few times which definitely shows you care about what you're doing, so many do these with such minimal effort. I would love if you did another video like this, maybe add some music in the back for next time with each descending tier? Definitely subscribed :)

Mascots Japan Redesign is most likely referring to the multiple mascot characters who had different designs in marketing and on box art in Japan. Crash Bandicoot was given a simple redesign where his hair tufts were orange like his fur and his eyes had Pac-an shaped pupils, and characters like Spyro the Dragon and Jak & Daxter were given more cute, chibi-esque box art while remaining identical in game. 1999 Concert may be referring to the 1999 dual release of the obscure games "Le Concert: Fortissimo" and "Le Concert: Pianissimo", two game that would get single disc compilation in titled "Le Concert" in 2000.

I don't remember if Blockbuster had the PS1 before release, PS2 MAYBE, but it was definitely a thing. Especially when the PS2 dropped and you couldn't find any anywhere so the only way to play the PS2 was to go to Blockbuster everyday to try and catch a new rental, this could be the reason why I don't remember too clearly

I think the 1999 concert entry has to do with Sony hosting a "Milk Can" concert to promote Um Jammer Lammy. It's covered in the Event Center of PlayStation Underground Issue 3.4.

A bit of a correction at 13:00, only the later "psone" models would actually check for the regional text on the boot screen. The original Playstations (as well as psones, as a secondary security measure) would get the regional information from a specific groove printed onto the game disk that couldn't be replicated by retail CD burners. This is why solutions such as the swap-disc method work in order to play backups, you put in a legit disc with the groove so the console can get the regional information, then swap it out with your backup disc.

We never had the money to buy a PSX during its runtime, so I was still using my SEGA Mega Drive 2 until the late '90s. Then I got my first PC, which was also a really old machine. Anyway, this video is amazing for me because I'm just rediscovering this incredible console via an emulator on my Steam Deck... And I'm commenting on this video even though it's already a year old :)
