I have studied this battle for 20 years. I will never know it all and thus am still learning more all the time

I'm really glad that the corn field didn't fall in the hands of some project developer that would have turned it into a MacDonald restaurant.

So amazing these young men gave it all to preserve their ideology! Many say it is sad, but the men on both sides wouldn't take back their actions because they loved their nation.

Dennis i can't say enough about what you and your associates have done to preserve these precious Battle Fields from encroachment by developers. I've never been to any of these sites, but I get a clearer picture of what took place there by watching these videos. Thank you so much.

Here in Ulster County, NY, we remember the service and sacrifices of the 20th NYSM (aka 80th NYV) who were engaged while serving with Patrick's Brigade. And a company of Kingston men also served with the 102nd NY as part of Greene's Brigade. Always enjoy these ABT videos. Thanks.

Today is the 160th anniversary of one of the most bloodiest day of combat in the American civil war. Every famed unit on both sides had their baptism of fire that day: From the Iron brigade, Confederate General Hood's division, the Irish Brigade, many strategic areas of the battlefield where the fighting was brutal and drenched in blood: Among them the Confederate center which was on a sunken road which later became known as Bloody Lane. The cornfield, which changed hands so many times, to the fight for Burnside's bridge. The Bloodiest day is a appropriate name for this battle.

According to the Elliot burial map of Antietam, there was a rebel entrenchment running parallel to the Hagerstown Pike. The entrenchment started near the Smoketown Road and extended northward for an unspecified distance along the pike and a few yards from the east side of the pike.

There is nothing like this in Belgium. I know a ton of battles have taken place in Belgium, since we are a centerpoint in old europe. Medieval warfare, 30 year war, 80 year war, french wars, first en second worldwar, much more battlefields then you can possibly find in the us, but our history seems not to be interested in it. Even Waterloo! I know Waterloo. But i know there is more knowlede with the tourists than with the belgians. A cultural thing i gelieve.

2:10 source on corn height? I’ve always heard the old corn types were much less tall and planted less dense than field corn today As in like chest/chin height back then, avg height was ~5’8”, not near 6ft

My great great grandfather fought with the Reveres and Holmes in the 20th Mass, the Harvard regiment. He enlisted as a 42 yo in April 1862 and fought with them until wounded at Cold Harbor and mustered out in 1864. That regiment had the fifth highest casualty rate in the union army. William Gartland of County Tyrone, Ireland.
