Honestly I can't stand keyboard trays and can't imagine how people can like them. I like my peripherals being on the same surface as the monitor. *But I guess that all depends on the furniture*

How far back can you push the keyboard tray?
@TheErgonomicsGuy
8 жыл бұрын
It depends on the length of the track under the desk. Typical either 17 or 22" The longer one should allow the entire tray to slide under the desk.

You're doing a nice service but gaming drives the entire pc market not to mention the billions in R&D for research equipment. You example key board tray has no room for a mouse. A keyboard tray without room for a mouse just will not do.

Thanks for the comment. You are right the mouse and keyboard need to be at the same level. I was working at a client sight and this is what they had.

you have a choice in how long you want your keyboard tray. I have a 27" for a full-size keyboard and mouse, you can use a shorter keyboard without or wired/wireless number pad if you have a 25" or shorter.
@TheErgonomicsGuy

Typically the platform is 27" wide. If you are using a shorter keyboard you have more room to mouse.

I'll answer the question for myself. I looked up a video like this because I've been having wrist pain. My keyboard tray is 26 in. off the ground, and 24" wide. I use a Razer Blackwidow keyboard and Razer Taipan mouse, and the tray is certainly not wide enough to fit both comfortably. I play games of different types, slow and fast paced. I'm moving soon and shopping for a new desk, so I'm trying to find out what's optimal.

+Steve “The Ergonomics Guy” Meagher the reason i use a keyboard tray is not for the ergonomic reasons mentioned in the video, i use a 27'' monitor and my desk is only 60cm deep, so without a keyboard tray i would be sitting too close to a monitor of that size...

Thanks for these clear explanation. For my personal use, I have my seat height dialled in, but I have never really got the keyboard level set up properly. I'm now thinking either adding a keyboard tray, or go for an an adjustable height frame for my workstation. They are not cheap, 200 or so bucks, but I'm now thinking it's a reasonable investment for my home office.

I notice your mouse is still on the desktop. I use the mouse maybe more often than the keyboard. I imagine the same principles apply? Should the mouse not be beside the keyboard then? Thanks!

I have a keyboard tray and don't like it since you can't use the desk. Meaning I can't reach my in- or out bin or my action files or even write on my desk. A keyboard tray appears to make a "desk" pretty much useless. Any suggestions? Would like to use the keyboard tray for ergonomics but not if I no longer have access to my desk top space. Thanks.

The desk that I'm currently gaming on needs replacing. it is old and made from cheap particle board, so it's pretty beat up looking. It has a keyboard tray, which I really like. My problem I'm running into now, is that none of the "gaming" desks that I see have keyboard trays on them. I don't like having my keyboard up on the desk. It causes my arm to fatigue and is just not comfortable. I've had so many people tell me that keyboard trays suck for gaming because they don't give you enough room for your mouse. Every time I hear this comment I just stare and blink. Do these people seriously not realize that you put the keyboard on the "keyboard" tray, and set the mouse up on the desk? ...smh

When this keyboard tray was removed from my old desk, a gray plastic piece about 3 1/4" long fell off of it. It's curved and has a hexagon-shaped slot like you would use to tighten a bolt or something. Have no clue if it even belongs with the tray but the hexagon slot is slightly smaller than the hexagon bolts on the tray. Since everything's working fine without it, I guess it's not important. 🤷♀️ lol

I need a keyboard tray that will let my Logitech K350 slide under the desk. I looked for the "Workrite Pinnacle arm with single level platform" you listed, but I can't find it. My problem is that every time I need to use my keyboard, I need to slide it out from under the desk and adjust the height which is very time consuming. I need one that will automatically adjust everytime I need to use it.
@TheErgonomicsGuy

Unfortunately they don't make such a thing. You could look at an adjustable height desk. They will have settings the return the surface to preset heights.

Hi! Do we need support to rest our elbows? I think that if I dont get the elbows to rest on somewhere, the weight of my arms is going to be on my shoulders and neck. Is that ok?

I prefer a deeper desk so can rest my for elbows on the desk. This takes the weight of my arms and allows my wrist to be be in a neutral postion. Not sure if this cause stress on the shoulder though.

Not sure if you need one? Put a cushion or blanket on your lap with the keyboard on top and see how that affects your overall comfort. Then if you find a more comfortable position you'll know what kind of keyboard tray you need.
