Great review. One year in with 2C and no homekit and the battery life hasn't changed, it was never 6 mths though especially if you use high sensitivity which you need to. (Im recharging the busiest came every 2 mths). Not too bad. Eufy can miss some motion, which is its only disappointment. Not sure why. Also snooze doesn't seem to work, tested with its light and it always comes on, alerts and records anyway. Otherwise its a great product. Love the alerts and remote capabilities.

Note: Initially the TV makers were using the horizontal numbers 720p, 1080i, 1080p. But someone decided to use the larger vertical line count when 4K TVs came out. In TV resolution 1080p is 1080 horizontal lines by 1920 (2K rounded) vertical lines. 4K (2160 x 3840) is twice 2K and 8K (4320 x 7680) is twice 4K. They'll have to do some fudging when they get to 16K as that will only have 15,360.

Great channel, Shane! I’ve found a number of your videos super helpful. I just wanted to pass along my experience with the EufyCam 2 pro with Homekit. I’ve had my cameras up for 31 days and the one that gets a lot of use on the front of the house over the driveway was down to 9% after these 31 days. Lol. I guess no big deal, since I charged it up this afternoon, but it did take about 7 hours to get back to 100% charge. The one on the side of the house that gets very little traffic, mostly birds and bunnies and the dog patrolling the yard is still at 86%. Thanks for all that you do here!

The reason you got difference in performance for recordings. First, the camera was very high! Eufy recommend 2 meters at a push. The other reason is that the cams use a motion based sensor vs infrared on the Evecam and circle camera.
@ShaneCreates
4 жыл бұрын
Yea that’s true. Although my camera wasn’t that high. 11 feet. They recommend 7-10 feet. It was just too far to capture motion from the front of the yard. Also true about motion based vs infrared sensors. Regardless, I don’t think most people care HOW the motion is detected...they just want to ensure everything is captured that should be. All in all they all did a pretty good job, with the exception of Eufy missing some action here and there. Seemed to have more issues recording in HomeKit. I just wanted to compare to other HSV cameras to make sure it wasn’t just a “HomeKit” issue, as we all know there can be problems on that end as well.

As 2k is actually 2048×1080, I’m not sure why they call it like that. 2K is just FHD but 21:9 instead of 16:9. Same fur UHD and 4K. When the resolution of the cam is instead higher, they are under selling ist. But never the less, resolution on paper is not the limiting factor, it’s the Bitrate, compression and overall quality of the sensors. Just look at good FHD BluRay footage and you‘ll see that all the resolution buzz isn‘t worth it (higher data volumes, more processing power, smaller pixels on sensor = more noise,...)

Using it with HomeKit? As I mentioned, they say using it with HomeKit will drain the battery faster. Plus, if it's in a high traffic area, then that will drain it faster too. And other settings like "optimal battery life" or "optimal surveillance" will be a factor as well. I'm sure the claimed "365 days" is under ideal conditions (probably not using homekit, low traffic and "optimal battery life" chosen). Looks like I'm currently getting about 3 months with moderate traffic, using it with HomeKit Secure Video and Optimal Surveillance on.

Thanks Roy! Both are very good and each has its own benefits. The Circle View works exclusively with HSV (and does it well) and doesn’t require any hub or additional equipment. I love the simplicity. However the Eufy Cams 2s have local storage, an alarm, completely wireless, but require the base station. With that said, if you only need one outdoor camera, have an accessible power outlet, and only care about HSV, Logitech Circle View is a great choice. On the other hand, if you like the idea of local storage, prefer wireless, and maybe want more than one or two, I’d probably go with the Eufy Cams. I guess the point is, it really depends on your particular use case, setup, and what’s important to you.

However, I experienced nothing even remotely close to 365 days on charge, actually seeing more 3-4 months, even with the cameras set to Optimal Battery Life mode. Good review as always Shane. I’m interested in your ‘follow up’/‘long term’ review video (if you’re planning one) to see what actual battery life ends-up being in a real world scenario. Once you changed all the settings to provide ‘useable’ footage of monitored areas, and added the system to HKSV - I assume that you’re going to be changing those cameras quite a bit more than the ‘once a year’ as claimed on the box. - warning - rant ahead... I dunno. I still (as I’ve mentioned in our previous discussions) have a hard time understanding why someone would want the ongoing inconvenience of having to re-charge outdoor mounted cameras. In my opinion, I’d MUCH rather take on the task of installing/configuring/aiming a wired POE system ONCE - than having to regularly be climbing ladders to retrieve units every time a ‘low battery’ warning notification hits my phone. * Now, I totally get that a lot of people just have a relatively ‘low’ roofline, and could get easy ladder access to their camera mounting locations IF they are simply pointing them at a driveway/porch. BUT. Even in those ‘easy’ install scenarios, you’d be hauling a ladder around to pull the cameras...then waiting for them to charge...then spending the time to re-aim them afterwards to get them ‘just right’. In that scenario, it’s just an inconvenience. Until you’re having to do it when the temps are freezing in the winter...or there’s several inches of snow on the ground. Forget it if you’re mounting the cameras under a 2nd-story roof line, or in any other location that’s ‘difficult’ to access. Who wants that sort of nonsense to deal with? Perhaps I’m just crabby this morning, or missing out on something totally obvious about the ‘needs of customers’, but I tend to see any of these rechargeable camera systems as a product for people who really don’t know much (if anything) about home repair/maintenance/construction. Basically, to be blunt, the guys (or girls) who don’t own a REAL set of tools. Meh. Rant over, I guess. Thanks for the update. Good stuff as usual.
@ShaneCreates
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brad! I know the problem...dealing with freezing temps and inches of snow in the winter would have me a little crabby too...just move down south where it never snows...problem solved! 😜 But seriously I understand your point. I can see the appeal on both ends for different people. And I actually have both types of cameras as well myself. I have a wired, always-on dvr system as well as many of the homekit options, both wired and now battery too. While the wired system was a pain to instal, setting it and forgetting it is nice. But it can be very challenging for certain layouts, and some people, to figure out the wiring aspect. These are certainly much easier to install, and if they truly lasted a year, or even close to it, that's not a bad deal. Fortunately they do make it very easy to pull the cameras down when you do need to recharge. Sometimes the "needs of customers" is just "super easy." To your point, there are probably many, many people out there who may not know much about home repair or construction. Some folks out there I'm sure just don't even want to think about running wires. But yea it will be interested to see how the battery life does actually play out after some extended use. Maybe I'll make that follow-up video in a year or so. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Shane! If the camera is near power can it be plugged in permanently so that you don’t have to keep taking it down to charge it? How long does it take to charge?
@ShaneCreates

Hey Terry, good questions. I suppose you can plug it in permanently, as the camera does still seem to operate and record when plugged in. You do get a bright blue LED when charging but that should go OFF once it's fully charged. Charging time should be between 8-12 hours. In the app it says "it will take about 8 hours from empty to fully charged with a 5V/2A power source." The user guide says 12 hours.

You can hardwire this to power. You just need to set the camera Power Mode to Solar. It takes about 8 hours to fully charge. You must fully charge the camera before putting it into Solar power mode.

Appreciate you for sharing the video. I’m shopping for cameras and feel like the eufy system makes the most sense. I’m at the beginning stage for HomeKit. The new HomePod is making me consider ditching Alexa. Do you have any experience with the eufy doorbell and also what is the door lock/thermostat you prefer with HomeKit? Thanks!

Hey Josh, thanks for watching. I have not used the Eufy doorbell yet. I am tempted, but I am waiting until one of these video doorbells officially releases support for HomeKit Secure Video before I get one (hopefully Eufy will be the one). There are lots of good locks with different features, so it just depends on what your needs are. I like the vocolinc lock as a great budget-friendly lock with lots of features for the price. I also use the Friday Homes lock which is a good retrofit lock, similar to the August lock. Some others I would consider may be schlage or kwikset. For a homekit thermostat I prefer the Ecobee because of the ability to use room sensors. There are other, more affordable options if you don't care about the room sensors. But that was the feature I was most interested in.

Hey Shane, have you noticed any improvement on the motion detection of the EufyCam over the last 8 months? Looking to get some outdoor cameras for the new house. Love the fact that they are wireless. I think I would prefer the Logitech, but don’t really want to deal with trying to run wires.

Logitech is great if you can deal with the power source. It's nice not to have to worry about charging batteries. The Eufy recording is still not the best in homekit, but it does a good job in the Eufy app. As long as the camera is placed in a good location as recommended, it should do fine in the Eufy app.

from Amazon questions: How many cameras may be connected to each base station, and may more than one base station be used in a single home? Answer: Up to 16 cameras can be connected to each base station. And multiple Homebases can be used in a single home and handled in the same eufy account.

@@balexandre I don't think so in this case. Because you can actually have up to 5 cameras record in HomeKit, and many more streaming in Homekit. So it's a bit strange that there is a 4 camera limit for HomeKit with the Eufy base station.

@ShaneCreates

Tough call. I think each has their pros and cons. Personally, if I can wire a camera, I will usually prefer that. Then you don't have to worry about recharging batteries. And the Circle View camera performs great and does just what it's supposed to do. But sometimes running a power cord is hard or even impossible, which is where the Eufy is awesome. As far as performance in HomeKit, I'd say the Circle View is is more reliable recording in HomeKit Secure Video. My Eufy Cams still don't record much of the action in HomeKit. However, they do perform great in the Eufy app and record much better there. And then you have the local storage options available with the Eufy Cam Base Station that you don't get with Circle View. So I think it's about deciding what features are most important to you, and decide from that. Hope this helps.

Hi Shane. Great video :-) Thanks for posting the best videos. Regarding the 100db alarm can that be tricked by a signal from homekit or only by the EufyCam's? Meaning can an sensor that gives an signal to Homekit then activate the alarm? Also is there any outdoor POE cam's that is better/the same and working with Homekit Video Secure? Just to avoid the charging problem and have 24/7 recording. Again thanks for helping all us Homekit users :-) great work.

Thanks for watching! No, unfortunately the alarm is not exposed to homekit, so you can't trigger it or use it with any of you other homekit devices or sensors. There currently are not any POE cameras that I'm aware of that support HomeKit natively. Some people have used homebridge to expose POE cameras to homekit, but that is not native support and you won't get HomeKit Secure Video that way, just the live stream. Thanks again for the support!
