One of the many things I loved about this show is nobody is a super hero. Everyone has a specialty, maybe 2, and are generally good at other things, but nobody is exceptional at everything. "Are you a good pilot?" "No. I'm a Marine. Pilots carry me to kill things."

Seems odd to me that the high-G couches aren't more cradle-like, supporting the head from all sides.
@nullfi7148
3 жыл бұрын
The issue with these high-G burns isn't whiplash, the pilot is essentially going in a straight line so all the force is being directed back. What Bobbie is worried about here is stroke induced brain bleeding (which is why you see the display show a brain with the sections most affected being lit up yellow, when Bobbie saw the warning she immediately throttled down) The seats rotate the way they do to handle the side to side motion that the razorback would have to account for when doing sharp adjustments at speed.
@MikeJF85
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but you can see the way their heads are being pressed into the seat off to one side a bit, it'd be way too possible to end up with your head off at a bad angle that you can't correct because there's too many Gs. You'd want to support it in a proper position.

@@MikeJF85 The representation of high G forces is totally unaccurate in the expanse. At the accelleration those ships endure, anyone would get a super tight facelift. It would be very visible. Check out videos with pilots at 9 G getting their faces warped. In the expanse they go to 20+ G.

In the books, that's referred to the distance which railgun projectiles instantly hit targets. In Season 6 we see why they don't typically fire railguns at larger distances. To answer your question, the show probably made a small writing error because you don't dodge missiles period. That's why in real life and in the expanse countermeasures are used like rapid firing cannons, and interceptor missiles.

@@Sully998 Dodgning missiles is possible it's all about Delta V available, G forces and acceleration. Depending on the geometry you can fly a course that forces the missile into a course that either depletes the available Delta V or where it can't adjust the course rapidly enough.

@@lars7935That only works in atmospheres. It doesn't work in space. We don't juke out missiles in a basketball sense. We force them to slow down through drag until they no longer have the airspeed to correct their course. There is no drag in space. Any missile contemporary with the ship its fighting should have less maneuverability than that ship. The missile only needs to carry thrusters, propellant, sensors, and a warhead.
