Hilariously he got the QB right the second time (with flaws) but he whiffed miserably in talent/depth in key areas like the trenches. No surprise whenever I saw their O-line face against Donald and the Rams in key games, the latter would win out late in the game. The two LBs he took for traits high in the first round (SImmons at 8, Collins at 16) aren't exactly game changers like a Micah Parsons whose a beast at 12th. The WRs he took like Moore, Isabella and others were under utilized. Worse were the TEs which for some reason he kept collecting but were never as valuable in the offense. Then the FAs he signed were kind patch jobs to long term problems especially on defense. Old JJ Watt was still trying to carry a lackluster D-line.

I think I'm probably going to be a bit kinder then most of your comments on the subject, but his Arizona teams never admittedly got significantly better through the draft. Moves like free agency helped but this was always a team riding hard on a couple talents both sides of the ball. Their loss against the Rams in the playoffs, where Kyler looked very out-matched and overwhelmed, I felt was a harbinger of the next season. I do think Kliff deserves the responsibility for why those teams tended to falter later in the season as it showed an inability to adjust so don't get me wrong, but I do think they could've gotten more assistance for his regime.

With the exception of this season spiraling wildly out of Kliff’s control, how is his tenure with Arizona dubbed a “failure?” Each season showed clear progress, which included the Cardinals first playoff appearance since what, 2015? Not to mention, they earned HISTORIC ROAD WINS against their division rivals in what was easily the toughest division in the NFL in 2021. Please tell me what head coach could have succeeded in Arizona this season considering everything that was thrown at Kliff? This season was lost before it even got started. With Hopkins out, Kyler Murray’s ridiculous contract, to an eventual depleted roster, no depth of talent, and just all around bad luck. And yet, Kliff found a way to prepare three different backup QB’s so they could actually be somewhat competitive. David Blough was rolling better than Murray was all season-and he literally started a week after getting signed to the team. What’s more telling is that his players played their hearts out to the end. So, if you want to call this season a failure, then I’d completely agree. But it’s not a failure because of Kliff. This is a pretty popular narrative to go after him because a) he’s the head coach, and it comes with the territory, but mostly it’s b) he’s a good-looking dude that everyone thinks reeks of privilege. While the latter may be somewhat true in the NFL’s hiring practices, he definitely pours every ounce of sweat and energy he has into his job. Say what you will about his coaching and his in-game decisions, but this guy works harder than most and there is zero question that he gave it his all. In the meantime, I’ll just sit back and watch Kyler Murray’s ego take over the franchise as he gets a carousel of coaches fired and teammates traded. Arizona is not a winning franchise, and they never will be as long as their current owner is running the table.

No one surprised Keim got walked after giving Murray that insanely stupid contract. Cards had ALL the leverage. Kyler had no playoff wins hes a .500 QB was only an alt selection for 1 pro bowl. And they went into the seaosn knowing 1. DHop would be gone 6 games and 2. Kliff cant win the back half of a season. So We ALL knew Kyler would have a down year meaning MORE leverage for the cards to not give that stupid frickin contract!

Giving the qb a long term contract over $100mm was bad business.

Kingsbury’s failure at Texas Tech was all on him! But I will stand by what I’ve already said, While he may be some to blame at Arizona, the Cardinals will be shopping Kyler Murray at the end of the 2023 football season!

as a cardinals fan, I never wanted him in the first place and was extremely happy he got booted, hopefully bidwell will hire a good coach and gm...but I don't have much hope

How is one called a “failure” after winning 11 games and getting to the playoffs just two years after going 3-13 with the worst roster in football? The NFC West had a multi-year run as one of the most competitive divisions in league history, and they were knocked out by a Rams super team last year.

I thought Kliff was okay. In his 2ed, 3rd, and even this year Kylers health screwed him over. Really the whole teams health this year sucked. Sure he may of been a little to aggressive on 4th but statistically that’s what you should do. Kyler also didn’t look to good this year and I think Kliff had nothing to do with it. The o line sucked and his best wide out was out. As for Kliffs teams at tech I mean not many people win at Texas tech.

Lol Kliff sucks dont even. Head coaches have a huge effect on the QB just ask Trevor Lawrence. Also his playcalling was garbage 9/10 times it was a screen or short pass.

He called terrible time outs that ruined games, he made check downs on 4th downs and constantly made college level plays not utilizing the team around him on simple run run check down playstyle that was read every game. He forced Az's hand to not get a offensive coordinator and he constantly got lost on the clock, he was listed as being the top 10 statistacally worst head coaches as an overall career with a team due to his incompetence. We miraculously won games and blew winnable ones all year on terrible playcalling. Don't even say it was health this year when last season we had a healthy squad that collapsed in on itself as kliff didn't re adjust his playbook.
