A Part 3 to this series would be great, I think one on the West would be great. He's some ideas/theories I came up with... How they would cope with the immigrants from the Warsaw pact. Just some ideas that might fit well in this world. The mass hysterica, ostracizing of Eastern Europeans who are scattered across every nation from small communities. Frequent riots and extremists cause many to hate them and maybe in extreme cases persecution. The radiation effects on farmlands around Europe. For example where I live, a Chernobyl radioactive cloud came directly over a town and every animal was killed and crop burned. Imagine if that was worse, small instances of radiation effects would crack communities apart. The Troubles goes into open conflict as Ireland is hit the hardest with its farming sector devastated. Germany is still split culturally with the Eastern Army and people being distrustful as many are still Communists and leads to a major political divide in Germany. Maybe Europe relying on Gaddafi maybe creates an intervention if a Libian Civil war breaks out. Many Scandinavian countries go into famine as what little food is contaminated. Ukrainian/ Belarusian conditions and what life would be like living in those areas. A possible UN Containment Zone near Chernobyl. Imagine Kiev and Minsk completely abandoned would be horrifying as well as you said a densely populated area the size of Texas being uninhabitable would completely change our culture. Not even mentioning the effects on American politics.

One complicating factor in Kazakhstan in this time would be the sizeable German-speaking minority that Staling had deported there during WW2. No idea about a chaotic war situation.
