The Fanger method, currently one of the most widespread methods for estimating thermal comfort, calculates two indices called PMV-predicted mean vote and PPD-predicted percentage dissatisfied, which indicate the average thermal sensation of an environment and the percentage of people who will feel uncomfortable in a given environment. This is of great interest not only when evaluating a situation but also when planning or modifying a thermal environment. The importance and widespread application of the method is evidenced by its inclusion as part of the ISO 7730 standard for thermal environment assessment.
