Agreed. And I'll be playing along behind the drums. Been playing since 1981, at four years old. My big bro brought home the VH DiverDown album soon after and I learned a ton from it. Music seems to be the best remedy for the negative cloud that is chasing me around now. But I know that one day soon I'll be "Dancing In The Street"!

The line "Blue-eyed murder in a size five dress" is a play on the line "She was brown-skin murder in a size-twelve dress" from the fantastic 1967 memoir "Pimp: The Story of My Life" by Iceberg Slim.

For all of Eddie's pyrotechnic solos, the real magic in the VH sound is his rhythm playing.
@MichaelSorensen-bl3ec
7 ай бұрын
I agree. One of the best rhythm players ever. Too many wannabee guitarists neglect this aspect, which is ironic because if you're playing this type of material, you are only soloing about 10% of the time maximum. Hit that groove, get in the pocket, throw in a few tasty fills. Eddie understood this perfectly, damn, he wrote the book on it!
@TheMidnightPhil
4 ай бұрын
100%. Yeah, his soloing is iconic, but it wouldn't have counted for a lot if he didn't have such incredibly tasty riffs and in-between-the-verses noodling. It's just so damn good.

It's the best Van Halen album for guitar. Period. As a guitarist, this album is the Bible for me. It wasn't their most commercial album at the time, but it is head and shoulders above. We're STILL trying to nail that tone all these years later. This is THE Brown Sound. Ed was connected straight to the source.

I grew up on this band and they put on the best shows of any rock group I'd seen, it was like a giant party in the audience and Diamond Dave was like a spandex wizard casting his spell of Rock God. I'd also recommend some of David Lee Roth's work after VH, especially the first two albums with Steve Vai on guitar, those albums are pure fire.

Definitely do the entire album. You’ve done” mean street” so go to the next song and play in order. This was Eddie’s album, he worked with engineer don landee at nights to get away from the producer and Roth. He got his way on this album. Unfortunately at the time this album wasn’t as popular as the first 3. But for us hard core VH fans it’s our fav. It’s considered a dark album, it’s almost as if Eddie is pissed. It has a different tone to it than the rest imo. Great reaction as always!

This is one of those albums that was immediately followed by an explosion in the number of guitar students I think you might be better served jumping around, there's a lot of b-sides on Fair Warning, maybe Jamie's Crying off the first one, strange rhythm under a cool riff and a kinda odd melody but it all works really well together and became a big hit for them.
