Here’s an example that contrasts movies that present as fantasy vs movies with a fantasy element/trope or two: Harry Potter. When Harry is with his family and in London, a fantasy trope/element shows up every minute or two. But the instant he goes to Diagon Valley or Hogwart’s, the watcher is transported to a fantasy world. Everything is magical/fantastical. It’s a great contrast of the two styles within a single series

My number 2 (after LOTR, of course) is Star Wars (Lucas’ original 6 movies collectively). There’s nothing remotely scientific about Star Wars, and it’s not particularly trying to be. Its themes are basically identical to most of the fantasy genre, and Lucas even intended to evoke a “myth” feeling from the story. He succeeded, brilliantly.

Speaking of the where would you shelf Horror in a store: Here in scandinavia you can find Horror, for the most part, in the fantasy/sci-fi section. It's become like this nice cozy neighbourhood where all these genres hang together and have fun. Like I imagine it's the "Unpopular Kids Club": The Science Geek, the Fantasy Cosplaying and the brooding Horror fan. But about Stephen King: I thought it was hilarious when I visited Gothenburg and went into a sci-fi / fantasy bookstore. And they have this huge selection of books and they actually do have a horror section. BUT they have clearly given Stephen King his own section, even marked it! "Here be the King Books."

The Prestige (movie only) is only Sci-Fi if you believe that Hugh Jackman was cloning himself. The whole point of the movie was that everything is a show and nothing is as it seems. The main characters are falsely narrating their own lives to fool each other, so the idea is that Christopher Nolan was fooling the audience, and that all the "clones" in the vats were just wax, and the actual trick was just Root cooperating this time. The "magic trick" was Nolan getting you to believe in cloning technology.

Shannara was always post apocalyptic. In book one, after they pass through “definitely not Moria” they notice the skeletal ruins of skyscrapers. Allanon (definitely not Gandalf) says something about them being the remnants of an ancient civilization after a great cataclysm. They weren’t always connected to the Knight of the Word books. That didn’t happen until Armageddons Children, which was rebranded later as a Shannara book. But Terry’s premise that there are ages of science and ages of magic (and Elves have been around forever but hidden) was there from the beginning.
