Yeah...getting things under my fingers. That's what I'm working on. As a guitar player, I have that relationship between my ear and my fingers sorted. On sax....not so much. I have to visualize a guitar fretboard when I'm improvising on sax. The C Melody helps with that. Thanks for the exercise. I'll definitely work on it. Hope to see you at SG on the 19th!

That’s exactly what I’ve been facing. I never had too much of a problem memorizing the guitar or piano, but man am I having trouble memorizing on sax. I learned on piano first so I’ve got to actually visualize piano keys when trying to remember chord progressions.

@@robfairbrother3014 Yeah, piano and guitar are both visual...you can see your fingers. The piano keyboard is linear so it's easy to visualize intervals and chords and progressions. The guitar fretboard is a grid, so it's geometric...scales and chords are shapes and patterns that you can SEE. Sax is like....algebra. Numbers and formulas that you have to memorize...until you get them under your fingers and build some muscle memory. And I'm not a mathemusician... for 40 years I've only had to count to 4...sometimes 6.😅

Hey! Yeah, I plan on swinging by SG on the 19th. I hear you, I've been trying to work on my piano chops while in Ko Samui, and the whole time I'm thinking saxophone, but like you said, at least with the piano, I can look at that note and visualize what it sounds like. On the sax, you're flying blind! 🤣 Also, I changed the transposition of my keyboard so that it always plays in the key of the alto. That was a huge step forward in working on both instruments at the same time.

You referred to these exercises as being for the sax. I play the trumpet.... wouldn't it be workable for me on the trumpet?

Good stuff Question: What A#/B Flat finger do you use on the BMaj7 when going from A# to B and back to A#? Do you use the Biz? Am finding that transition tricky. Thx!!

Might be a little late here but, F# to Bb, Play F# next play B while keeping middle right finger on F# key only for that 1st A#/Bb (alternate Bb played with either B and F key together or B and F# key together). Up to B is B key only. For next A#/Bb back to B and F# key and then play F# again.
