Watched this in the morning before getting out of bed. I needed inspiration and this is it. After 20 mins I was up and dressed then went straight into the kitchen and threw out all the foods that would hinder me. I’ve been vegan for 4 years since the age of 58. I always dipped into WFPB as my goal. But I’m lazy! I’m going to watch the rest then walk to the shops for fresh plant food. I have back pain so sometimes it’s difficult to get about but today the sun is shining and I feel good!

This is one of my favourite interviews with Chef AJ; I've watched it three times now! I love Doug's engaging manner and I love his uncomplicated approach to food. I agree that too much variety fosters overeating, and that I can do without. I have no desire to create elaborate meals that mimic the kinds of food that got me into difficulty with my weight in the first place. Doug's persistence and tenacity is so inspiring.

I have to thank Micheal Greger too for turning vegan but indirectly!. My son-in- law had bought the book- How not to die- in 2021 August. It was too fat a book to read so I googled the book in early October, 2021 and found Chef A J's utube where Doctor John McDougall was defending rice and the potato!. I am a rice eater and in India it's very common to hear that rice causes diabetes, and potatoes make you fat! I was fascinated with his lectures and changed from vegetarian to vegan. What a blessing! At 65 I run long distances and play tennis without any pains. My father, Retd.Air Marshal P V Iyer, 92 years of age, has just written a book on fitness. " Fit at any age". It's available for pre-order on Amazon!

Such a fantastic interview and presentation, I love hearing Doug’s story. I can definitely relate to his sentiment regarding cooking and making complicated recipes. I’d much rather be working than cooking. I need fast easy meals, my body feels best eating simple and I never get bored with the beautiful rainbow of foods on this WFPB lifestyle. 🌱🍉💕

As a person who is morbidly obese (I am 100lbs overweight) and I am highly addicted to sugar, eating out at restaurants, and processed foods, I had to include a small number of nuts in my day. Only because it is helping me to get "off" of the unhealthy food easier. However, I am seeing that as it gets easier to increase my WFPB foods, I am craving the nuts and seeds less.

thank you so much to Doug for sharing his journey - it was much appreciated! I don't know if I could do the simple same old thing, because I feel like I crave variety - but that may be that I'm missing some nutrition that I'm not getting. I started vegan almost three years ago, and it's still a journey. Thanks again to Doug - he was quite enjoyable to listen to, and I liked how his background in science backed up what he was learning. :)

This presentation really resonates with me. Doug's weight loss journey seems to be very similar to mine. While I am not vegan, I am very close to it, and I lost 55 kg myself. Loved this guy! He simplified simple. I also concur with him that you cannot trust eating until you are comfortably full. Calories do matter, whether you count them or not - And he does. Great interview, so inspiring. One more thing, if I’m not mistaken, he basically cooks with a microwave only. Wow!
@DougLerner
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, basically just a microwave. Occasionally I might heat up some frozen veggies in a pan of water. But that's it. I actually tried my first InstantPot experiment yesterday (plugged it in for the first time in the 3 years since I bought it). The test to make sure it was operational worked, but my first attempt at cooking (just a few potatoes) failed and I ended up recooking them in the microwave.

I live in Thailand where rice is the foundation of the diet . Not all rice is created equal. 1 “tapee” (basically 1/3 cup cooked) of sticky rice is 160 calories. Jasmine rice 80 calories. Boiled rice (rice soup / congee) is 40 calories. Any Thai on a diet will choose boiled rice. Hard physical laborers and farm hands always eat the sticky rice (most calorically dense).

Well, as you probably might know, once you have a stent installed you are required to take some sort of a blood thinner for the rest of your life, apparently to prevent clotting around the stent. There's no way out of it. So I take one Plavix every day. I actually wish I knew all this whole food plant-based stuff at the time that they checked because I would've much rather have gone full vegan and no oil and avoid the stent if possible.
