Starting at 2:08:26 The Janos Slynt plot always made sense to me, because what are the alternatives? -Leave him where he is? To undermine Tyrion at Cersei's behest? -Demote him and wait for him to stir up trouble? -Try and send him to the Riverlands by land and hope Cersei doesn't interfere? -Try and send him to the Riverlands by ship? And land where? Not White Harbor. The fingers would place Lysa in a position she doesn't want to be in, so he'll likely be rebuffed. Around the continent to Casterly Rock? Unlikely, especially because Tywin would like view Tyrion as incompetent for doing that much only have Tywin himself deal with it. -Imprison him? For following orders? -Execute him in Kingslanding? For following orders?

I love these deep dives into George’s writing process. Someone (Preston) needs to go through some early AGOT drafts to see how his original plans have changed
@fabvz5436

Preston is really focused on the idea that ASOIAF is more sci-fi than fantasy, but it is really no way around the fact that there is lot's of magic in the plot, in special with Melissandre

In regards to the eagle igniting and Melisandre taking credit, you'd think the wildlings and night's watch would know that sending eagle scouts over the wall would ignite. That can't have been the first time they tried it, right? Or is it only now that "magic" is returning to the world that the wall has this ability?

The show addressed why Jon went after the mutineers at Craster's Keep. They could be tortured for information, like the Night Watch's actual strength.

I got a Theory about The Wall and The Nightfort. The Mouth is part of a "Huge" weirwood that span from mountain to coast. The children of the forest help making grow, Bran the the builder used Giants to pile rocks beneath the canopy, then bind everything in magic. So the Wall is actual a big weirwood cover in ice.

There are theories around like this, that the wall is a series of giant weirwoods in a line with others nailed to each tree. So basically the trees root system pumps the water in from the ocean and the magic of the others trapped in the wall keeps it all frozen.
@dee-taylor

@@Legs_ Idk about the Others nailed to them but I do like the idea of the Wall being a long row of huge weirwoods that's been frozen over for thousands of years. I think maybe the weirwoods absorb the cold from beyond the wall and keep it from going further south because even in the summer it's cold beyond the Wall, but just south of the Wall it's nice when it's not winter.

Regarding Cold Hands being Benjen, didn't one of the Children of the Forest mention to Bran that Coldhands has been around for ages(implied around since the long night!) hence it can't be Benjen?

My theory about shireen is that her greyscale will reactivate and send her into a coma, mel lies about her condition and glamors her to seem dead, jon is still dead and now they have two dead bodies. They burn them both while Melisandre presides over the ceremony. Jons body does not burn in the fire and everyone is freaked out, they dump him north of the wall. Jon wakes up there.

GRRM changing the story while wrigting may be a reference to the first episode of Breaking Bad where Walter White says chemistry is the study of change. Maybe we will meet Walter White and Jessie Pinkman in the last book, like Better Call Saul did.

What preston is missing with the Slint narrative is pretty simple - Slint has his own ambitions don't take that away from him as if its just joffrey or cersei's doing - Slint could still be very reasonably loyal to the lanisters, how many people believed and it was in show and in the books even more so that Tyrion was the puppet master of the king, the one who abused his family , the evil imp. So Slint could believe that Cersei did her best a weak woman to spare him or whatever, believing that it was the evil imp that did him in

As for the giant mouth in the Nightfort, maybe there's a glass candle hidden(or something else?) there and when someone says the "words" the listener on the other end can open the door kinda like the Wizard of Oz?

In the idea that all of a song of ice and fire is the same scenarios, archetypal characters and events being replayed over and over, perhaps euron is portraying the night's king winning over the hearts and minds of his people, only to abandon and sacrifice them for his grand designs, euron (nights king) desires dany (night's queen) to increase his own power and glory, i can see all of the death fueling a super blood sacrifice ritual, perhaps euron is truly trying to become a new bloodstone emperor, he found some lost history in asshai or beyond and is trying to replicate the actions of azor ahai.

Man you really need to work on your ability to talk fluently. I never heard so many incomplete sentences, incomplete thoughts, starting and stopping, jumping to another thought, not finishing a sentence. Then all the umms, the ya knows, the so'sand studdering starts, and long pauses to chopped thoughts n sentences to new thoughts n sentences and doing it over and over. So hard to follow wtf you are trying to say. You really have to find a way to articulate your words and thoughts better. Because just 15 mins in and I was ready to give up Preston. Just try listening to this back. It's a tough listen man. Just listen to this 1 sentence for example 47:25 the whole thing is like this.
