How is lowering interest rates and giving people more free money “ripping the bandaid off” in any sense of the phrase? They shouldn’t lower rates until they have to. End the ridiculous crap that comes with free money before it ends bad.
@AnotherAmerican91

Yeah I completely agree. Rent and housing cost make up like 60% of your average Americans expense. Rents aren't going down, they are going up at around 5.3% YoY per the last report. Idk wtf they are talking about rent going down. With that being said it probably will.

lowering rates in fact reduces the interest on savings accounts. They need to lower rates because every measure of inflation is at ZERO except housing, which is not controllable through fed funds rate

How long does it take for rate cuts to have meaningful effect on the economy? It seems like it would take quite a while (since companies increasing investment again could take a long time before that investment actually translates into new jobs), and we saw that when they were raising rates and it was like hoping to stop an iceberg by shooting bullets at it. I just have a bad feeeling that the economy will slow and jobs will be lost, they'll finally cut, and it'll slow and slow and slow and each successive cut will have little effect until finally enough time passes for the borrowing to translate into jobs and significant economic activity and who knows where the economy might be by then.

Hearing them talk about rents being inaccurate in the CPI…I am certain neither Michael or Ben were highlighting this in 2021 when rents in the CPI were dramatically BELOW what was going on in the real economy. As such, neither of them were calling for rate hikes in light of this inaccuracy, but now they want rate cuts because actual rents are declining faster than the CPI indicates and they think the Fed is behind the curve. The inconsistency of these two is tough to watch.
