This is deceptive. Amazon reduced the number of clicks in April 2023 at the pressure of FTC. I'm guessing this newer video isn't using the older system. Furthermore, they aren't being sued simply because of the number of clicks, but because of exploitative UI/UX patterns.
@josephahner3031
Жыл бұрын
So Amazon takes even fewer clicks now than in the video while the FTC has probably not bothered to simplify their system. And the government of course would never do something like create an exploitative UI to make you more likely to do something you don't want to do. They wouldn't bait autistic children into trying to fund terrorist organizations or try to sell citizens fake bombs in order to fluff a spreadsheet.

Submitting an FTC complaint costs nothing and isn't analogous to opting out of an Amazon Prime subscription. The FTC correctly alleges that Amazon has a pattern and practice of misleading consumers and making it more difficult to cancel a prime membership, often misdirecting customers or diverting their attempt at canceling. Also, doing business with a private entity isn't analogous to contacting a government agency about corporate abuse. This video is incredibly misleading and the argument it makes is flimsy and facile. This is very on brand for Reason, which hasn't met a transnational corporation it doesn't like so long as it serves as a foil for any government program or agency. @angerycamel2
Жыл бұрын
@@edwardbair1952 what makes you think they arent? Im sure there are on going proceedings. What this does is it creates a precedent under which the agency can pursue other corporations that are committing similar types of malfeasance, but its easy (not to mention more impactful) if you start at the top of the foodchain and work your way down, it will be easier to gather evidence of malfeasance from a larger company, additionally, it may be an agency policy that americans actually have to file complains as shown in the video before the agency can proceed with respect to the company's due process rights. So if you have a particular issue that has occurred with a company you don't like, you may have to be the one who files the complaint to get the ball rolling. My guess is alot of people, filed complains against amazon, after their elderly parents "thought" they successfully terminated their account but failed to do so, draining resources they didnt have, and thats the part this video doesn't want you to know.

Lots of money in gas or you have to make it yourself But here comes Amazon they’re willing to transport something that someone else made (another business or their own) to you for a shipping fee and the little business that had a small audience before now can have people buying from far away Entrepreneurs see a want or need in society and come up with a solution via a product or service for a price agreed upon by the customer and the entrepreneur via the customer purchasing on their subjective value AKA: how much would I pay to not have to make this good or service myself, and will this person do it better than me?

The Amazon delivery driver stuffed a package in my brothers mailbox that was way too big for it, broke the door off the mailbox, causing it & the package to fall out onto the street where someone ran over the package. I’ll bet 10-1 it was the same lazy driver who ran over it. He’s been contacted Amazon for weeks demanding they pay for the replacement mailbox door he had to go buy & install, but he still hasn’t gotten any response not even a standardized bs one.

Completely irrelevant, and a horrible attempt at analogy at the end. The issue at hand is STILL whether a consumer should have to click in six different places to be certain Amazon will no longer be taking money directly out of their account every month. How many times have you canceled a subscription and hoped that you performed all the necessary steps correctly? THAT is what this is about. If we want to go to the tortured analogy, the FTC (does one really "subscribe" to the FTC?) does not collect your money out of your account on the back end. It's budget comes from money collected on the front end - which never appears in your bank account to begin with - as part of being a government agency. If we want to complain about FTC being funded, we pretty much have to complain that the fire department is ripping us off as well. Pretty low ceiling for this channel so far.
