This fight always stuck with me whenever I was first watching hajime no ippo. Because in all honestly up until Ippo got the belt, I'd argue that this fight was Ippo's HARDEST. Which seems weird but when you think of Ippo's fights against volg, mashiba, or the 2 sendo fights, there were moments when his opponents had the upper hand for sure, but Ippo always had that power factor as a secret weapon. And in all of those fights that Ippo were losing, he would still have moments where he would be able to deliver a devastating blow so he wasn't truly out of the fight. But here... that power was barely even a factor and was constantly negated by kobashi's gameplan. And there was never a moment in the fight when Ippo could come up with a counter. Stuck in the mud with no way out. And the way it ends sorta frustrated me but also makes sense in a way. Like you said Kobashi always dreamed of having power like Ippo and when he demonstrated that kind of power, he couldn't help but try to seize the moment and accomplish his goals. Which only leads to his downfall. At first, it seemed like a plot hole BUT as someone who's watched a lot of MMA you would see this type of behaviour a lot of the time. When a guy has his opponent rocked or seemingly hurt they decide to get a little sloppy and go blitz for a finish, only to pay for that blunder. Best example I can give is probably Pereria vs adesanya 2? Or maybe closer to dricus vs giles idk. But either way this fight has and will always be super interesting to me and you explained it pretty damn well in this video. Nice job!

I 100% agree with your comment about people might thinking its a plot hole, its actually not unrealistic that this situation would play out. There are similarities with the adesanya vs pereira 2 match, pereira unloading and not seeing the counter coming, one of many examples Thanks for the detailed comment! I always love reading others opinions 🫡

The best thing about Kobashi is that he did have an underdog match with Hayami the know speed boxer in an upset victory. The lost to Ippo is a stepping stone for him to learn and become better.

Kobashi is honestly one of my favorite characters. I loveee his haircut and just his whole personality. He’s a really nice person, extremely intelligent, and has a really nice haircut. Personally I love his way of boxing even tho its boring it’s smart. High recommend the sub tho it’s honestly x10 better trust 🗣️

Yeah I love his character, sure his way of boxing isn't flashy but man is it effective. His game plan was working real well and would've won if he just stuck to it, it would've been great to see him compete with other boxers like ippo who are monsters in the ring using his strategy and game plan.

I think he should not have won against Ryo because of the skill that Ryo had he had way more skill

Also I think it is all about the plot and like they say the main character always has to win the first storyline but he loses later

This was definitely a fight that Ippo could of lost, he would of been able to get back up to the top, but by then all the match ups would of been different, Mashiba, Sendo, etc.

kobashi dosent have the strength to take him down he has good strategies he wouldve won against ippo if not for him trying to get a K.O which ultimately led to his defeat and the fact ippo's inner light wouldnt make him fall
