I used to live here when I was a child , born and raised some of the run down houses and buildings, I can remember when they was somewhat better looking with people living in them. I left Clarksdale in 1996 at age 12 seeing Clarksdale now it’s depressing.

The person living there decides what he/she thinks is "valuable" even though it all appears to be garbage and IF the city did remove it that's a potential lawsuit. The person living there decides what he/she thinks is "valuable" and decides if protecting should be with fists, knives or shotguns. Keep in mind these people are rather desperate which is highlighted by their subsistence life style - most would welcome a good fight to break the boredom.

To ensure they wouldn’t have to invade the island of Japan and have millions die on both sides (referred to as operation downfall today) America made the life altering decision to deploy these atom bombs over two coastal cities in Southern Japan. Hiroshima & Nagasaki. The destruction was immeasurable with both cities almost being entirely flattened. This is what this neighborhood looks like.

I would not exactly call this a hood. My city has large areas with very expensive homes that transform into war zones from time to time. The Philippines is much poorer, yet people are cheerful and keep hope alive. There is no government support at all. Nothing.

I was there many years ago in the summer. I was at a southern plantation house party and I thought I was back in time to 1855. There was a pool party and even in the water I was sweating the humidity was so high...worst I ever felt. That place really, really sucked then; I bet its 100x worse now.

If a video is going to be made then he should have shown the clean parts, the nice homes and yards instead of choosing the poorest part of town to showcase. Yes folks should be doing better upkeep and cleaning up and maintaining homes but most of these folks can’t afford to do that. The people of clarksdale for the most part are good hearted , decent people.

If the people who live there got off their arses and tidied the place up, and took some pride in looking after their neighbourhood instead of waiting for handouts and help that will never come, they could make these places decent.

Why title this "The filth of Clarksdale"? Just bcuz a town is poor it doesn't mean it's filth. Poor people aren't filth- they're just poor. Question: did you offer to help anyone while you were there? Did you give a hand? Money? Did you offer solutions? Thought not.
