space funeral deserves to be up there at the peak of weird af rpg maker games for many reasons but especially for introducing so many angsty teens to ruth white's uniquely haunting music in one of the most memorable moments in any old rpg maker game ever

@@heypeterReal Thank you a lot! Yeah, it is very hard to get attention for my games, but I still love game development as a hobby! It would be super cool to see an analysis video of one of my games from you someday. I started making Mucorales when your coronation day video came out, and it was so inspiring for the hidden stuff I put in the game!

Given you mentioned it, have you considered taking an in-depth look at Revenge of the Sunfish? (If you even can, that is?!) I forgot about that game being something I stumbled upon somehow as a kid.

I like to interpret Moons mind break not so much about jealousy or art itself but realizing the horror of being an echo of "perfection". Its refuting nostalgia as an objective measure of reality. Imagine the existential terror if every older person who believes reality was better before was objectively correct. Thered be no point in living other than to worship and pay respect to the "original". If the now is just a thin echo of before, then there is no point. Nothing can improve, nothing can grow. Everything is a degeneration of an abstract perfect original, and thus unworthy of existence. I think your interpretation of the platonic ideals is that it means commonly held ideas. That's not what Plato meant. No, it's that concepts exist a priori to you thinking them. There is no subjectivity, there is a prefect ideal triangle that you're picturing wrong in some way. Plato said there's a singular True Triangle that all other triangles are imperfection expressions of. It's the most literal idealistic way to think. Triangle isn't an observational construct that we create thru consensus, is an immutable fact that we grasp at. So the villain has a point, the idea that reality is just a husk of perfection is a prison and should be broken.

Mystery command is just the best. Remember once i used it, Phillip puked on himself and enemies abandoned the battle in disgust. And i also loved the appearance of Dracula

10:20 the ATB is because it's built into RPG Maker 2003, and there's no way to remove it unless you void the warranty or mess with arcane programs and plugins made far after the fact. I like making comments like these because I feel like all the reviewers who review RPG Maker games don't actually know anything about RPG Maker itself and it both is good to spread the info around about why things are the way they are but also because it kind of irks me every time a youtuber is like "Wow this design decision is really weird I wonder why they intentionally put this here" and it's just something you physically cannot remove and it's infuriating (I hate ATB lol) EDIT: wow I just had to click play for 2 more seconds sorry nevermind

Some info about Plato's theory: Plato actually proposes the existence of "two worlds", basically. One was the "ideal" world, where all ideas reside and all perfect things exist. Then, there's our world: full of copies and imperfect versions of the perfect ideas that came from that world. He goes on and mixes a bit of mythological beliefs into his idea, mostly regarding what happens to souls and how we as people aren't copies of a perfect being. It's honestly very interesting how his work was adapted into this game; making the "ideal world" be a location in the game you can travel to is very fun. And it plays into the crisis Moon has as well: how can we truly create something unique, when everything is an imperfect of perfection? How can art truly ever be art, when an absolute perfect form of it already exists? How can anything have any beauty when its all a bastardization of true, perfect beauty? It's honestly great.

Video games almost objectively did not peak in the early 2000's. There's a virtually unlimited number of high quality indie titles available on the market for much less than AAA studio prices. It's nostalgia that makes you think that way.
