I've been following you since you only had about 8k subs and I've never commented. I live in Wichita, KS, and remember searching zone 6b gardening and you popped up. I was so happy to have found someone growing in a similar zone to mine. Your channel has been blowing up and you deserve all the success coming. Just two years ago my husband and I were in an apartment, watching rent and the housing market skyrocket. We wanted nothing more than a house with a backyard for our dog and a garden. So I really felt that pain of yearning for more space. I'm just grateful to have our small house and large-ish backyard now. So I just wanted to comment that I really hope you find the land that you're looking for and are able to finally expand your homestead!

Thank you for your answer for why you cage your zucchini! It makes complete sense why you would. My sideways zucchini took over a 4x3 foot space it didn't have to. Luckily I didn't have pest problems that I'm having now. Asiatic beetles are eating everything now, and rolls pollies killed my yellow squash. I am currently battling my garden beds now that it's harvest season because things grew out of control, and my two strawberries were overshadowed so long ago, I only got 2 to eat, and my green beans and pickling cucumbers have grown into everything else making it hard to find or even reach them. Next year will need much better planning, and I'm definitely going to try to use some of those cattle panels and stock up on neem oil! Thank you for inspiring me! I've really enjoyed my garden more than I thought I would! ❤

Putting your zucchini in a cage is a great idea. It also helps them not take over an area as much because it grows up instead of flopping over. You can also inspect the plant and it helps with air flow. "Tomato cages" are TERRIBLE for tomatoes but wonderful for squash and peppers. They really should rename those things.

Thank you for sharing your garden with us. My husband and I have been wanting to have more garden in our suburban landscape, and seeing what's worked for you has been very insightful to what we're going to do next year. We're about 20 miles south of you, so we're in the same grow zone. Your suggestion earlier this year for a new preserver to invest in a freeze dryer has really struck a cord with me. I've really enjoyed seeing what you're preserved that way. Hopefully we can get one next year! Also, your temperature blanket colors are gorgeous. I made one a couple of years ago but gave up a few months in. It's a great office blanket though! One question - was your chicken coop purchased or built from scratch? I'm not sure we're ready for hens, but I LOVE that coop!

Wondering how the flower magnets are going, do you plan to keep in place as decorative, or have as functional, because if functional I fear petals will fall off, so another little project could be to put in resin and then add magnet, looks great though, awesome idea.

Bre I feel you. We moved from a rented house with no space to our own house, now I have a small 7000sq garden, it is great and way more than we had before, but at the same time, I would love to grow several fruit trees without sacrificing sunlight and space for my child to grow and play. All the garden ideas and wanting to do it all instead of having to choose and pick. You will eventually get your homestead. I would say that, even if you think you are not ready yet, talk to a realtor and just ask them to send you places that meet over half of your requirements, check every now and then, and your dream place will show up when its meant to be.

We never got over 75 in my city so my tomatoes never even fruited this year, it didn't help that the skunks kept digging them up this year. I'm planting some Beets, Radishes, pak choi and some wintergreens from Asia. I'm also hoping my celery makes it through to grow better this winter. I'm also going to pull all my kale and replant that along with broccoli and hopefully plant alot more Alliums. Also Its coming up on duck butchering for our urban homestead and its never a nice time but the organic inputs you can get for your garden are sooo worth butchering at home, the feathers for mulch or crafts, the blood to be watered down and added to plants as an amendment. It's such a nice thing to have. It is so sad but also we can't have roosters in our area so we choose ducks and geese and the ducks are so prolific, the eggs taste great and are amazing for baking, they have such wonderful personalities and there pond water is great to water plants with or do an anaerobic ferment with weeds to water with.

You are doing very very well. And you are a great chicken mother. You will find your forever property. I was 62 when I moved to my one acre in northeastern Ontario. I lived in Toronto and brother is it busy and crowded. Because of my age (65) I find this acre adequate and I am also doing it on my own. I grow everything I possibly can, forage for blackberries in the woods every August to process in the winter. I don’t have chickens, but I am seriously thinking about acquiring some. Just getting this place up and running with the gardens and doing my own renovations has been a massive learning curve. I love my life, but yeah, sometimes I miss the city. You will do even better in a large space because you have the passion, you are young and strong, and you have help. Think of this as a practice run. Best of luck to you. Peace and love.☮️💕

Omg yes I have pulled 5 tomato plants no longer producing ..so just waiting on my green beans to kick in (bush and pole) in super super hot and our city put us in a water restriction starting Sunday. I’ve been conserving water and barrels. I’m a small backyard gardener. I looked it up. I think it said I need about 70 gallons which I should be fine. I got barrels that will give me that in a little more .., I also learned that the worms actually deplete the soil because they’ eating it up and composting it so I had to buy 10 bags of extra soil to top off my planters.

Keep some of your sunflowers in cardboard boxes for the chickens over winter don’t feed them all to them now when you have so much else to feed them, also make sure to get rid of blight you swap your beds around.each year, that is what we are told to do.why not look for someone who wants a veggie garden and doesn’t have time close to you and see if you can set up and garden in their space for them having some of the produce maybe a single older person and that way you can have more space and hens without moving at this stage. Good luck in growing

This has been such a weird growing year for me. Between rats and squirrels, I didn’t get to harvest but maybe 3 tomatoes. I’m in a neighborhood, like you are but in North Texas.
