The Gray comes from understanding that to break your own chains is to seek power to bring oneself into balance. To have power is to understand that force existed longer than ideas, and as old as it is, live beings are merely users of it. Balance comes with a cost of grasping the idea of how much insignificant one person against the tides of enemies trully is, and sometimes one act in a heat of a moment, can turn these tides against you, and crush everything that you are. But that cost comes also with a gift. Gift of knowledge, that not only you are so insignificant, but also are people that think they are not. And thats the most powerfull weapon a force wielder can have. This balance can push your own limitations aside, simply by accepting the fact, that light and dark has no meaning at all. All that really matters is what you trully believe you can achieve, and the force is simply a tool to create what you believe in. Thats the lesson of being gray. Embracing consequencess of being alive, and fighting for what you believe, and betraying ideas that are thrust upon you, spread by teachers of the light, and dark. The Force does not condemn darkness, and glorify light. The force stay with only those who are willing to use it. Ideas behind sides are only shackles for obedience.

I tell you the only reason the rule of two Sith ever succeeded in conquering the galaxy was sheer dumb luck that the inevitable death of both Master and apprentice didn't occur until their plan was complete. Once they had a power structure underneath them, they lost any hope of long term survival because there was suddenly a bunch of ambitious military officers working under them with every incentive to see them both dead. Before that, the risk was mainly that in an entire galaxy if there's only two of something, it's only a matter of time until that's whittled down to 0.

The Sith aren't all that great. Their's is a philosophy of achieving absolute freedom for oneself by enslaving literally everything else to ones own will. Such a path has one ultimate ending. A single sith lord on a throne on a mountain of corpses, surrounded on all sides by millions of angry slaves and vengeful enemies. Also the nature of the force doesn't really lend itself that because it connects all things together making it ultimately impossible for one creature to maintain control over it because they're only a small part of it no matter how much they're able to pull on it.
