You don't remember people smoking everywhere? I certainly do. Everywhere there were multiple stinky ashtrays for smokers to dump their trash into. Some people tried to send the "no smoking please" message by removing ashtrays, but then the ash just went into potted plants or leftover coffee cups or whatever else was convenient. That wasn't even the worst of it--I grew up in Mississippi, the buckle of the "just a pinch between your cheek and gum" belt. I'll take cigarette ashes over snuff spit any day.

I've commented excessively on this episode, but I will make two valedictory points (unless the redoubtable Ms. Willett cries: "en garde" again): (1) Suzanne Pleshette was classy, funny and luminously beautiful. Yes, her character here was slightly irritating but that's not her fault. She was terrific on the Newhart show and she was a great Tonight Show guest. RIP angel. (2) Eddie Albert, born 1907 actually won the Silver Star. Forgive me if somebody else mentioned this, there are 19M comments. So, when Robert Blake played John List, we had a murderer playing a murderer. Here we have a war hero playing a war hero. I really like John Wayne, also born in 1907. But liberals like Albert and Fonda were in uniform while he wasn't. Thank God, Gable was a Republican.

Was there ever a Columbo episode where the villain's acting wasn't top notch as well? I can't think of any. This woman looks like a heathy, in shape, sober Liz Taylor ! Something that was not seen often from the reel one !

Oh please ''healthy in shape. sober'' Elizabeth Taylor was the most beautiful woman in the world. IF Taylor enjoyed food it was her perogative. Anyway when E.T. got the role of National Velvet as a child with her violet eyes; the director told her father ''She has the part but don't put mascara on her we do that here at the studio'' Her father replied ''She's not wearing mascara.''

The mondo Columbus episodes were too short and the mondo 1950s TVs were too small to hold more than a 10 minute show. They didn’t have Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. The proof is in the pudding.

Not one of my favorite Columbo episodes. It's more interesting for the drama that was occurring with Peter Falk while the finale was being filmed.

@@seedsoflove7684 😂 There's a KZitem video where Suzanne Pleshette goes into the whole story. If you search her name, I'm sure it will come out. The story will be more compelling if you listen to her telling it.

To me this wasn't a great episode, it was too slow and plodding getting to the point. Before this episode I only knew of Eddie albert from the sitcom "Green Acres"

Is this mirrorwise? The swastika is heading the wrong way... on the other hand, Columbo's glass eye is always on the left but who knows where it was in real life

It's Oliver Wendell Douglas! (Eddie Albert is the cheesiest actor in Hollywood. We are aware, every second that he's on the screen, that he's acting.)

@@marilynwillett804 He always had the nicest things to say about you! (But seriously, I'm not sure what it is for me. Maybe it's because he shouted his lines, maybe it's a combination. I liked the supporting cast so much better.)
