@@estherzy if short - it’s normal for Axel to have a 1/4 prerotation, and this is exactly how much perotation Ilia has. You can clearly see this in the recent video from Japan where Ilia performed the 4a. If you see otherwise, I can’t help you, it’s your problem. Don’t change the topic to Malinin’s technique - he has one of the best jump techniques and is fairly consistent. We talk about the 4a here and not about Ilia’s jump consistency, no idea how you managed to change the topic and turn it on the personal side too (“buy tickets,… support him” etc.). Don’t answer, I absolutely don’t want to spend my time to argue with some random person on the internet when it’s clear for everyone what I’m saying. In chess there is also a record no one has broken: a rating of 2900. It is extremely difficult to obtain and no man has ever came close to breaking it except for Magnus. His peak rating is 2881, with 2889 on live ratings, while the second highest is Garry Kasparov with 2851. Think of it as chess’s quad axel. Artur Dmitriev is the first to attempt 4A, might have already landed in practice. Hanyu mentioned he has never landed in practice in a post-Olympics interview. His attempts are still far compared to llia's attempts despite practising for years. His first attempt is underrotated and downgraded to a 3A and he landed on 2 feet, while his second attempt is again underrotated and he fell. Compared to llia's three attempts where the first only has a step-out and within a few days, the second one is near clean and after a few days, the third one is clean, not to mention how his landing is so much stable than Hanyu. llia will definitely land first, especially when he progresses so fast that it took him only a short time to train and he is landing 4A everyday now.

@@divinearia1601 I see… of course Ilia will have his own style, to fit his body type, his musicality, and probably that of his parents/coaches. So far Ilia reminds me more of Yuzuru, maybe because they are both slender and give the impression of being more aerodynamic. I don’t know how to explain this, but when they jump, I feel like the rotation axis goes right through the center of their head, while for other skaters it feel like the head is a little off center, as if the head is slightly hunched forward. That straight posture also makes other elements look more elongated, with better definition. But Ilia seems to be rushing through the elements, they don’t look crisp yet. Maybe an ice dance coach could give him a few pointers. If the landing isn't smooth is usually under-rotated. Sometimes I can't actually tell whether I've just done a double or triple salchow or flip for example, but I know that if I was at maximum power I was most likely doing a triple. And if I had been doing a double it would've just felt like a 'pop'. Also the whole part of the jump in the air has to have good takeoff and doesn't last more than a second. Almost everyone really seems to have a different theoretical justification for knowing how much you've rotated. Yuzuru or Ilia Malinin? Or maybe someone else will be the first to land a fully rotated quad axle, but, there's one thing we can all agree on. A fully rotated quad axle will be landed in competition next season. I understand why a skater armed with a reliable quad axle would include it in a program but I don't understand why Ilia is focusing on quad-quad combinations unless he believes, as I do, that the ISU will change its scoring system in the near future. At present, the quad-quad combination is not scored as such. As noted below, Yuzuru's quad axle attempt at the Olympics was scored an under rotation, meaning that he completed somewhere between 4.0 and 4.25 revolutions of a jump that requires 4.5 revolutions, but, he needed somewhere between 4.25 -4.5 revolutions to receive full credit and make it official. Any jump landed exactly 90 degrees short of rotation; e.g., 4.25 revolutions for a quad axle gets a q call and an automatic -2 GOE. Ilia's quad axle in practice looks fully rotated to me but he will need to do that in competition to receive full credit and glory. Shoma is said to be practicing a quintuple jump. While the quintuple jump requires between 4.75 - 5.0 revolutions to receive full credit, a skater need only complete between 4.5 - 4.75 revolutions for it to be judged as a quintuple jump with downgrade. A quintuple jump landed exactly 90 degrees short of rotation; e.g., 4.75 revolutions will also get a q call and automatic -2 GOE. But I would think any skater that can land a quad axle is likely to have sufficient rotational momentum and amplitude to land a quintuple jump. The ISU is trying to set a delicate balance between Jumping Ability and Program Components so that neither is devalued or left behind. Jumpers should be rewarded for their physical prowess and artists should be rewarded for their mastery of program components. I do not understand the argument over which is more important. Athleticism is here to stay and so is artistry. The best figure skaters in the world have managed to do both for over a century.

What do we have here? Distant footage of a successful jump in a training session. One among how many it's not said. What do we have from Beijing2022 Olympics? A jump witnessed by the whole world, made within a FS program, in the most important of existing competitions and duly evaluated, so a real fact fully documented and declared official. All according to the rules, therefore unquestionably transparent, honest and virtuous, the true FIRST 4AXEL in History. Not ratified, ok. So, someone can do it, whoever the skater is, it will be welcome simply because it will be a fact, duly evaluated as well. Fiction is free, creative, interesting, but fiction is not History. The first 4Axel is already in History. The second is to come.

I view it as the total opposite. Hanyu talked so much about his 4A attempt for the past 4 years, but never achieved it. Ilia never talked about it, he just did it. Actions speak louder than words. There's no value to attempting a jump in competition. Hanyu said he had never landed a 4A in practice, so what is the value of trying a 4A in competition that is certain to fail? Anyone can even try to jump a 5A in competition. But there's no value in it.

@@RavenousFallen no, according to his own testimony, he never landed it cleanly, not even in practice. Maybe he decided to try it at the Olympics hoping that the extra adrenaline that comes with a competition will give him the extra few inches of height to help him land it. Other skaters have practiced it, they could land it with a harness (but I guess George Clooney could land it with a harness, on the moon), but never in competition. Only the skaters who worked on the 4A before Yuzuru didn’t make such a big deal out of it. Yuzu and his fans hyped it so much, everyone feels like a huge letdown now.
