"Decisive Italian Victory in Tripolitania"?? Mustafa Kemal's and Enver Pasha's irregular warfare was able to defeat far superior Italian forces (since mainland Empire was disconnected to the warzone, Mustafa Kemal and Enver Pasha were sent undercover to organize a local force against Italians). War was won on land, however, lost in the negotiating table due to the Italian invasion of Dodecanese islands. After Italians failed in Tripolitania, they used their far superior navy (against almost non-existent Ottoman Navy at the time) to invade the Dodecanese, and to force Ottoman government to let go Tripolitania. Just wanted to point out this minor mistake.

That's funny because in 1014 Eastern Roman Emperor Basil II(The Bulgar Slayer) captured 15,000 Bulgarians and fully blinded 99 of every 100 men, leaving each man with one eye to lead the other 99 back to their ruler Tsar Samuel. Upon seeing his blinded army Samuel had a stroke and died two days later. The First Bulgarian Empire would end four years later in 1018.

The most imported thing that haven't mentioned in the movie is that England back up Turkey against rebellion on Balkan
@chuckvader1656
4 жыл бұрын
Zoran Ilić That’s true. Britain always supported Turkey because they had big influence there and are able to control the straits. This way access to Mediterranean is denied to Russia. When Turkey doesn’t own territories around straits they most likely will belong to Bulgaria (closest country). Bulgarians was under influence from Russia - common people and Germany - the Tsar and government. Both cases are not acceptable for Britain. That way 35 years earlier Britain and Germany were cause for Berlin treaty in 1878. With this they denied big and strong Bulgarian state with major influence from Russia (biggest player in the war against Turkey, which liberate Bulgaria). After that Britain continued to support Turkey but Bulgarians turn to Germany (Tsar and promise for united Bulgaria).

My first job after graduating from high school 15 years ago was at a clothing department store. I worked part-time to put myself thru college. For one reason or another, there was a very large number of Eastern European immigrants from Serbia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Hungary, and a few from Croatia who I also worked with there. Despite some of their religious and cultural differences, they all got along with each other very well, and most of them were able to converse with and understand each other’s languages more than I expected (some of their languages were even mutually intelligible, in fact). All of them were extremely nice and supportive towards me, especially since I was the youngest and newest one of the department crew, while the rest had been working there for years already. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Balkans people. I hope that despite all of your differences, and painful memories from the past, that you will move in the direction of reconciliation, and realize that you are all more similar than you are different. In Bulgaria,the resolve to reunify all lands lost to the Berlin Conference was incredibly strong. In fact,Bulgarian resolve and determination to fight and die for the Motherland and reclaim the territory with a majority of Bulgarian population has been the reason why we were capable of mobilizing up to 1 milion men at the end of World War One. Bulgaria had around 4.5 milion people living in the final days of WW1,meaning that almost up to 25 % of the population was sent to the front and one man fighting with the determination of 10,just so that we could've reclaimed what we believed was rightfully ours in the past centuries.Now,it's all over,we can only contemplate and learn from the mistakes that were made in the pass. In Bulgaria,we have a special day to remember the awful mistake that was made after the betrayal and attack on our former allies. On the 16th of June,1913 the order to attack our neighbours on the former Western front came from non other than our Tsar ( King ).From that moment on,the 16th of June would always be remembered as the Day of Criminal Madness in Bulgaria.

@@overlord4404 Ugh no, if hypothetically Bulgaria fought only Greece and Serbia, then Bulgaria would've won. Firstly that was never going to happen, since Romania had already declared it's intentions to enter a future war if Bulgaria had done started something up and secondly, the defeated Ottoman Army was finally mobilised in the european holdings of the empire and was ready to start an attack. But, for the sake of hypotheticals, Bulgaira would've won. Bulgaria broke through Serbia and was winning, same with Greece, the problem is that due to unrully soldiers and broken lines of communications, Bulgaria attacked Serbia with only 2 armies, in contrast to the planned original four. The other two sat and did nothing at the Northwest bulgarian border. But even without those armies, Bulgaria could've still won it, even phyrically, or atleast against Greece, as the greek armies were trapped in the Struma River Valley and were moments away from being surrounded, the saving grace being Romania and Turkey. Let's honor the Balkan League ! After centuries of occupation and tyranny the Balkan people worked together and they liberated Europe from ottoman turn invasions and occupation. What should be done in the 1300-1400 , was at least done in 1821- 1912. Let's honor the greek war of independence (1821-1830) , the Serbian revolutions ( 1804-1817), the russo Bulgarian / Serbian / Romanian - ottoman war of 1878 etc. Let's honor the many greek revolutions in Crete ( 1821, 1841, 1858, 1866,1878,1881,1897) , Epirus , Makedonia etc . The Balkan war was the culmination of all those attempts and liberations against the ottoman Turk occupation. Let's not forget that it was the Ottoman Turks that had invaded our lands and forced the non Muslims to live as second class subjects. We did not have a problem against the average Turk or Moslem. We had a problem against the armed armies who represented ottoman turk tyranny and oppression.

Very nice video, thank you! Two minor points: The city of Xanthi is not as shown on the map (it is SW of Adrianople, way further NE than shown), roughly where Xanthi is shown most likely it is Kozani. Also, I understand that a 10-minute video cannot have much detail, but I would like to point out that the successes of the Greek army in Epirus and Macedonia were not due to the laxity of Ottoman defenses but due to a combination of battleworthiness, strategy (by Prince Constantine and his top-notch staff), good timing, and superb Government by none other than Eleftherios Venizelos (e.g. the capture of Thessaloniki was by a direct command by Venizelos - Prince Constantine wanted to go towards Monastir). Case in point is the battle of Bizani, which you mention, and which was against very heavily fortified Ottoman defenses (designed by German generals and engineers). There were also other major battles, like Sarantaporo, etc.

Correction: In the deal with Serbia Bulgaria was promised almost all of Macedonia and the fate of the rest (the northmost parts) would have to be decided by Russia
@beograd07
5 жыл бұрын
Thant is correct but also the deal was to free that part of Macedonia together with Serbs but during the war Bulgarians were too busy fighting on S/E front Turks and let Serbs to free the Macedonia on their own. That is why Serbia did not want to withdraw their troops from Macedonia after the war and hand it over to Bulgaria. This was a seed for a second Balkan war. Also Albania which did not exist until then (only tribes of Albanian people lived there at the time) was promised to Serbia and Monte Negro but Austria "recognized" Albanian independence and let them have their own country. Not as a reward because Albanian tribes fought together with Serbs against the Turks, but to prevent Serbia's exit to Adriatic Sea and become too powerful in the region. So the big forces (Austria, France, Great Britain and Russia) decided the borders after the First Balkan war. Just like they do today. Balkan's countries job is only to fight each other. They don't have to worry about the outcome. It is already decided for them.

@lagjes cuni2 This is irelevantan for this video which is about 1st Balkan war. Every nation on the Balkan at one point in history had a kingdom and even an empire which ruled OTHER nations at one time on Balkans. Borders were shifting all over the place all the time and this is why every nation or country today on Balkan has other's countries minorities. Except Albania where Enver Hoxha made sure they disappear during his rule. So if you talk about 1272 and Kingdom of Albania then you should also say it was established by Charles of Anjou in the Albanian territories he conquered from the Byzantine Empire in 1271. It was called Mbretëria e Arbërisë. Then they tried to expand territories against Byzantine (mistake) and with counterattack they got pushed back to a small area around Durazzo and stayed there supported by Angevin's a french dynasty house. And Byzantine at that time has nothing to do with Russia - they were Eastern Roman Empire. Actually it was ruled by Serbian emperor Stefan Dušan who ruled Serbs, Bulgarians Greeks and Albanians. After his death when the empire started falling apart every nation started their fight for independence. It is than when Karl Thopia decided to free the country but he did not fight Serbs or Greeks or Bulgarians, but he had ti fight off the French dynasty first. But being under the constant pressure form Serbian Kingdom the connection stayed strong with French (just different French rulers as the heads were rolling in France at the time) They helped him to fight off the Serbs. At one stage in 1385 the city of Durrës was captured by Balša II and Thopia asked Ottomans for help to recapture the capital and held it until his death in 1388. After his death his son Gjergj in 1392 surrendered the city of Durrës and his domains to the Republic of Venice. By the time Ottoman empire conquered the Balkans and the 1 Balkans war started there were only a small tribes left around. That is why they joined Serbs a historical enemies to fight off the Turks during the war. So as you can see not a very strong kingdom to brag about it and even less important for this video. The main nations who made an influence on Balkans at one time in history were Bulgarians, Serbs, Romanians and Greeks (not necessarily in this order). But my point is: since the Roman/Byzantine empire there were always big powers who were deciding the borders on Balkans regardless of their war outcomes or what they deserve or they think they do. They (big powers) cleverly use the hate-ridge and old wounds from the previous conflicts to start the war when they need one or to pull the borders around as they see fit at the time in line with their interest. Balkan people keep dying in pointless wars and keep hating their neighbours which will be used again next time when the big powers need another war again. If the Balkan could unite (in theory) Western Europe would probably forget EU and try to join BU (Balkan union). Because Balkan people are far more friendly in nature and better fun to be with.

@lagjes cuni2 WTF? Can you read someones comments before you reply? Did you see my first sentence? You obviously want to talk about Albania only. You should make your own video about Albania or Albanian Kingdoms and then knock yourself out with comments. I will try to explain myself one more time to you and remind you again, my comments are related to Balkan Wars. Before the war all Balkan countries had a big population of other mostly neighboring countries minorities because of the past wars of expansions and retractions of kingdoms and empires. When the border is moving unto other country unless there is ethnic cleansing you get minorities. You get mixed population and many times shift of ethnic population. Because the borders were shifting in the past so many times every which way, Balkans today are a very mixed nation countries dough every nation is claiming they are the purest. Except Albania today which has least number of minorities. But not because they did ethnic cleansing (I never said that) but because of Enver Hoxha. Do you remember him, or you were not even born then? Have you heard his name ever or it has been erased from Albanian history lessons? It has nothing to do with Albanian culture even dough he was Albanian. When he got into power he closed all ethnics schools, religions and forbid any other language but Albanian even at homes. That is called assimilation. Not cleansing but forceful assimilation. He is the reason why Albania had a worst standards of living for decades. And why Albanian emigration outnumbers Albanian population in Albania. So my point is all Balkan countries have a considerable minorities today because of all the wars in the past except Albany. Read Simeon Dimchev commented about Bulgarians being able to mobilize such a vast number of soldiers at the time is exactly for this reason. Minorities living in foreign countries. Nationalism and minorities fed up with bad rule and hoping unification will fix everything. So before the first Balkan war countries I mentioned were mayor players in the war. Not in creating the world. Cannot make it more clear. It doesn't matter how great was Albania or Bulgaria or Serbia or Romania before in the past, AT THE TIME when the 1st Balkan war started Albania was reduced to tribes only and when the Turks lost the war they returned the land back to Serbs. The big powers then decided to allow Albania independence proclamation to grant Albania its own country. And the reason was to prevent Serbia exit to Adriatic. The borders were made on the paper regardless of ethnicity. Montenegro and Serbia was asking for all the land, Austria almost even part of today's Bulgaria (land). At the end big powers made a final drawing on the Balkan maps. So once this settled Albania did not play major role in next conflicts which led to second Balkan war. You obviously take it personally when anything is mentioned about Albania and you don't like it. You must love Albania more than Albanians themselves.
