I love the way you always take us on an otherwordly adventure! You're diagram and explanation of the double-wrapped drum, or sheave was informative, yet simple. You would make such a great teacher or professor because you posess so much knowledge, and yet you have a way to break it down where we laypeople can understand. Thanks!!

Nothing wrong with it.. Just a movie reference... It looks like the computer HAL9000 from the movie: A space Odyssey...

A weird detail that I spotted on the structure are the rollers. They don’t seem to touch the ropes all that much. And the top roller is placed in a slanted position instead of horizontal. Any idea why the top roller is placed at an angle? I quite like design of the structure, the track is basically a truss on it’s side made from what looks like HEB 800 beams. The diagonal bracing is placed a both the the top and bottom to give the main beams rigidity against sideways deformation. The architecture of the stations is very “Beton Brut”.😇

I think those rollers are primarly for the data/power cables to the car; see at 12:10

Well looks like I'm the third one ! Nice video, intersting to know how that "double wrapping" technique works ! The only incline lifts I ever took was a funicular in Luxembourg, some sort of mix between a lift and a train.

How does the travelling cable work that carries the signals and power to the car?

It's likely to be through conductor strips along the track and pick ups on the cab. Similar to how a scalectrix car gets power. However I'm not sure about what the 2 cables that go to the cab and counterweight.

Yes, i suspect brush pickup or something; at 10:51 , there's a set of meters labelled "Frotteur" which litterally translated means "rubbing" and in this case means some sort of brush pickup.

Now i've just noticed the two "loose" cables that lie on top of the car track structure and going downwards to the lower landing. (at 12:10)

Not sure how it picks up the power. Usually there are power tracks with some kind of brush pick up, but didn't really go looking for it when I was filming. The cables coming out of the back go down to the bottom, then back up to the counterweight. Not sure if this is for balancing out the cable spool - i.e. when the lift is at it's lowest point, there is XX metres of cable added to the weight of the cab. Sometimes they use cables that to back under the counterweight to balance it out again. But this might be something to do with the counterweight being at a gradient rather than vertical, assist bringing the counterweight down when the lift is coming up. Not sure, but I very much doubt these are to do with power.

@@mrmattandmrchay when looking on the bottom of high-rise lifts, there is also these cables in a similar configuration but they don't attach to any reel or part of any pulley system. Great video by the way! 🙂

I hope it's only skin deep but at 12:25 those Concrete support posts look rather fractured. mrmattandmrchay just may have vital evidence should the thing collapse in a couple of years.
