Oh this brought me to tears.Thirty-nine years ago, was young and very adventurous, I spent seven months in Peru and Bolivia, mainly in the mountains and small villages. I loved the BBC documentary a few years later. This music cut straight to my heart, reminding me of special people living in a unique environment, as well as my lost youth. So much has probably changed there with the passage of time too. What some of the listeners might not know is that the bass pan pipes are so big that they can only play a few notes, so the folkloric group would consist of several bass pan pipe musicians. It is a wonder to see their heads bobbing up and down as they blow their notes and make it sound like one instrument. Very beautiful music. Thank you!

Thanks for the Soundtrack! Brilliant music and BBC documentary. Bought the album when I was 14. Two Chilean folk music bands playing, Inti-Illimani and Guamary. Inti one of my favorite bands. They were living in exile due to the military dictatorship in Chile at that time. They returned in the 1980s and performed acclaimed concerts, a special song "Vuelvo".

Just watched Patagonia in the Eden series which made me look up The Flight of the Condor -one of the best nature films/series ever made. Introduced me to a group called something like Rumiakta. They actually came to my hometown so I saw them live - Brilliant! They not only played in a theatre but on the street in the city centre. Used to take my dear old mum to listen and she loved it too. I have part 1 of the original digitised. I would love parts 2 and 3 if any one has a VHS I could get them digitised and put on DVDs. Unfortunately when I put it up on Utube the BBC take it down although they leave up the US version which does not have Andrew Sachs narrating as in their original. Not even sure if parts 2&3 were ever on VHS, any way would love parts 2&3 to add to 1. which I have.
