Just a note on the Giltesa kit, if you plan to use it in a future project. The current pocket kit uses a tp4056, so you should only use it in places where the battery is not near the management IC. Allison did a great job moving the battery away and using a smaller battery to keep ample distance from the tp4056 chip. Giltesa is updating the kit to use the tp5000, which his new Gameboy Color kit uses, but that still has the same issue with overheating when charging.

This is a great mod. The creativity of the modding scene has been blowing up over the last few years and it's awesome. To address one of your cons, the cartridge not sitting flat. I actually think it's better that it doesn't sit flat. With the clear shell, it would be awful for it to get scratched. If you remember the old play it loud Gameboy, most of them you find now have lots of scratches into the plastic from kids sliding the games in and out. I think this is a better protector of the shell. Just my two cents. Keep making killer videos Tito!
@RandomizationShow

You make a good point about the plastic, but I would still rather have unavoidable damage to the shell itself rather than risking damaging/corrupting my cartridges, some of which are worth more than the shell.

@@RandomizationShow Agreed. The cartridge not sitting flat means it's more susceptible to being bumped and the game freezing up. And unless it's a display piece, the shell will get scratched up eventually anyway. So I'd rather have the cartridge sit flat.

Because of your channel and others like RetroRGB and My Life in Gaming, I have revitalized my GameCubes, or are in the process of doing so with HDMI plug and play devices since mine is a DOL-001 (one so far has the mods), the LaserBear Blue Retro controller board and I have yet to install the PicoBoot mod as well as purchasing the new microcontroller-based memory card you featured in the last two or three months. I also have the older GameBoy Advance and I am planning to put some kind of IPS panel, USB C charging with a Li-Ion battery and others into it. The thing holding me back right now is the finances to do all of these as I currently have other priorities. It's always interesting what you show in your retro-renew videos, and I typically see them and watch them. Thanks Tito, for what you do.

I would like to see a GBA SP mod like this. But I can think of some tweaks... 1: A recessed headphone jack. 2: Stereo speakers, not mono, twin stereo speakers! 3: A better more modern rechargeable battery! 4: a sleep or Standby mode when you close it, so it functions like the DS and 3DS family of systems. A recessed headphone jack would have a jack that is set to be either under the bottom half, or behind the screen... Something that will make the headphone wire not pinch or bend when you rest the system on your stomach when playing.

This is seriously one of the most beautiful gameboy mods ever. But my most anticipated mod is still Thiccboy SP, I've held off on other mods for over a year in hopes that it is completed/sold. I think it has more potential than the slates and minibuilds due to its unique features like a headphone jack, Bluetooth audio, wireless charging and a gigabattery lasting 20-40hrs. I imagine you guys will crush the competition against these other mods when it is finished. Yours is arguably the best that a GBA could possibly be. I remember there were delays due to either missing or replacing the headphone jack component. I think it would still be the best GBA mod of them all without it. This mod is really clever and otherwise well done/designed, but the way the cartridge sits at an angle looks sketchy and I wouldn't be able to use it in good conscience. Some games are worth more than the plastic shell, and if it isn't sitting flush/flat inside the system it is at risk of damaging/corrupting your cartridge.

I wonder if the screen/console retaining power a few seconds after switching off is actually an intended feature. If so, it is quite clever - some EZ Flash cartridges save to micro SD. They recommend leaving the console on a few seconds after saving to ensure it completes the write operation for the save, otherwise it can corrupt the save/files on the micro SD. This feature "could" be to mitigate that.

The one thing that wasn't mentioned is when the battery finishes charging on the Gameboy Pocket SP does the light go out or does it turn green that is something that would help people modding Gameboy Pockets so they know when it is charged.

Looks like a really cool item! Some important improvements I'd like to see though: 1. Move the cartridge insert to the bottom half to balance the weight, maybe in the same style as the SP. 2. Set in the buttons and d-pad like the SP so it can close flat. It's too bulky otherwise. 3. As you mentioned, flatten the cartridge when inserted. Use some kind of guided slot to accomplish it. 4. Bluetooth connectivity for link play?

Not wanting to sounds like a Giltesa fanboy, but his USB-C Li-po charging kit is actually an impressively well thought out set of parts. The kit on Allison's build looks to be one of the v1.1 or V1.2 releases, but Giltesa has since redesigned it to create the V2.0. The V2.0 uses a slightly better charging controller chip, and since the V1.3 it's had a different layout to move the battery connecter to a more convenient location. I've got a V1.2 (plus a 1000mah Li-Po) on a GB Pocket with a few basic mods, and a V2.0 on one that I rebuilt with an IPS screen. It's not a particularly difficult upgrade if you've already got a bit of soldering experience, but it's a little nerve-wracking as it's pretty much a one way mod, so if you botch it you'll be looking for another GBP to get a replacement board from. Both of the pockets in my collection that I've fitted these to went without a hitch, and I've still got a spare v2.0 that I may use in some future upgrades on one of the others.
