A handful a years ago, my dad and I stopped at a corner bar, I was all of 14 years old, and my dad handed me a quarter and said play something from the jukebox son, and I said like what dad, and said awe just push some buttons, ok dad will do, and by a stroke of luck, flip Wilson came on and the whole bar broke out in laughter, the bar tender gave a free round to everyone and gave me a free soda, I'll never forget that day, thank you mr. Last nite, bc the heating unit blew, and no one would be available to fix it bc it was Christmas Day, we all sat around the living room, near the fireplace. Somebody started talking about our Christmas gatherings of times past, and the topic turned to favorite tv shows, and we had quite a lively conversation about Flip and his show. Then, somebody pulled out a few decks of cards, and suddenly, we had a full-blown Carlotta tournament brewing. It was a magical night. RIP, Flip, and thanx so very much, for the magic, music, and memories.

This is history for me. This show came on every Thursday evening on NBC. My sister and I would usually be doing the dinner dishes. One Thursday night my mom calls up the stairs and says “He, girls! Flip Wilson’s on!” I called that we were doing the dishes. She said to stop, watch the show, then finish up the dishes, that this was a big deal; an African American man with a No.1 variety Show was a big deal in our house, as, during that time, we didn’t have many of us doing something this great that transcends

Flip Wilson was brilliant. Always made a statement re important social issues through humor. So sad he died so young. Read his autobiography, too. He said that his father abused him so horribly that he sustained belt lasting marks on his butt & this made him very embarrassed & uncomfortable during intimate moments with women. Very sad. Rest in peace & power, brother Flip Wilson!

Wished my own father were around to discipline me. It came at the hand of bi-polar relatives and a 'prison guard' of step-parent. I'd say if parents don't know the meaning of 'train-up-a-child-in-the-way-that-he/she-should-go', then give 'em up to someone who does. Abuse stays with you for life and manifests itself in many ways throughout adulthood. That makes for decaying societies, we're actually living in one in large part because of it.

I remember watching Flip Wilson when I was a kid. I can't remember any show that wasn't funny as hell. I am so glad that we have access to this show and the people that made them great all these years later. As others have said, these were the years of comedy where things were implied in the jokes and skits, but it was left to the audience to appreciate the humor. It was "clean" humor, wink wink, without all the raunchy look at me crap of recent years. I'd rather spend hours on the Internet watching Flip, Dean, Jonathan Winters and others to be truly entertained.

♥️ *True* *Story:* ♥️ Hello there! My name is Alisa & I'm from Indianapolis. Anyways, I am a singer/songwriter. Back in 2006, I was singing at a lounge/steak house. Flip Wilson's brother, who was a talent scout, had started showing up at these events. We started talking more & more & he would starting asking me to slow dance w/him. Then, one night, while we joined all the slow dancing couples, he asked me out. Although I was very honored he thought that highly of me, I did politely tell him I wasn't romantically interested in him. The biggest reason was b/c our age difference is nearly 60 years. However, he was simply one of the kindest people I've ever met. I often wonder if he is still living. If not, may he always RIP, along w/Flip. ♥️
