WRONG!... Sir, with all due respect; I believe that person who introduced the Flute into latin music was Johnny Pacheco (Creator of La Fania) in the form of Salsa, which was later entered into Latin Jazz. Johnny Pacheco also introduce the Violin successfully, after been told that it would never work, he proved everyone wrong.

Is there a video of Cuban flutist in general? Some of the best playing on flute I've ever heard is by some of the great flutists of Cuba. Not in jazz necessarily but especially in the musica typica, especially the Charanga orchestras of Cuba. For example Pauli of La Ritmo Oriental. Flu this will be particularly impressed with their high register playing as well as their unique phrasings and choices of notes. I'll done on the "baroque" or Irish D flute which also blend so well with the strings in these types of bands. Check it out!

Tique Holl - Hi, in response to your query a year ago, I'm thinking of Babalu Quinteto and that you may already be familiar with them. All their other YT videos don't feature a flautist except for this delightful rendition of "El Cuarto de Tula". Here he (name unknown) doubles up with flute and clave. kzitem.info?search_query=babalu+quinteto+babalu+e+invitados+ensayo+general Also, one of Los Van Van's original line-up as a Charanga orchestra in the late 1960's featured the flautist Orlando Canto. I found this video for you: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lqCgtGSkhqqkgKA All the best!

Such a delightfully smooth, relaxing rendition of a Ray Noble classic from the '30's by Frank Wess. Flautists are gaining recognition as they demonstrate their versitility performing various genres. From ancient civilizations to the '20th and '21st century, the list of flute players is extensive. The talents of Hubert and Ronnie Laws, Herbie Mann, Pacho, Althea Rene, Magen Woodside, Bobbi Humphrey, Nestor Torres, James Moody, Yusif Lateef, whew! To borrow a phrase from Mozart, to me the flute is Magical.

Hello Ricardo da Mata: Here is some info that might be helpful to you: JAZZ A type of music of black American origin CHARACTERIZED by IMPROVISATION, SYNCOPATION, AND USUALLY A REGULAR OR FORCEFUL RHYTHM, emerging at the beginning of the 20th century. Brass and woodwind instruments and piano are particularly associated with jazz, although guitar and occasionally violin are also used; styles include Dixieland, swing, bebop, and free jazz. LATIN JAZZ: IS A GENRE OF JAZZ WITH LATIN AMERICAN RHYTHMS. Although musicians continually expand its parameters, the term Latin jazz is generally understood to have a more specific meaning than simply jazz from Latin America. Some Latin jazz typically employs rhythms that either have a direct analog in Africa, or exhibit an African influence. The two main categories of Latin jazz are: 1. Afro-Cuban jazz-jazz rhythmically based on Cuban popular dance music, often with a rhythm section employing ostinato patterns and/or a clave. 2. Afro-Brazilian jazz-includes bossa nova and jazz samba.

I have been enjoying listening to these flautistas and notice a major difference between the ladies and Dave Valentin. Latin jazz is hot and passionate. Both he and Andrea Brachfeld are playing "driving , kicking, jamming" upbeat pieces. Andrea just does not have the required "blast" that Dave applies to strong driving passages. Both ladies have great rhythm, timing and feeling but the end results with them is weakness where drive and power should be. Dave "says" BAAAAHHHH!, they say baa.

Sounds to me that all they are doing is after a few glasses of wine, improvisations on the second octeve while fluttering up and down the scale with a little verbrato thrown in. Perhaps I can copy cat this on my exotic Arabian flute.... and most everything sounds good on that pentatonic scale. Hmmn food for thought ,😏

Hello Ricardo da Mata, really, the performances are all very good. What difference does it make what this music is called? A title will neither add to or detract from the performances. I am reminded of an incident in my life some years ago. I arrived early to hear some latin jazz at a club and found a close parking space. I decided to leave early, and as I was leaving, three ladies drove up and asked me, are you leaving sir? I said yes. Soon after a man drove up and lodged in front of them to steal the space. I rolled down my window and said excuse me sir, I think the ladies were waiting for the spot. He replied, hey, I'll fight you for it! Now I assure you I am quite well able to defend myself but I thought, fight?, fight for what? I drove off completely happy with the latin jazz?, latin music?, salsa?, hispanic music? chamber music?, west coast jazz? bebop?, east coast jazz? fusion classic? I enjoyed listening to a bit earlier. Que tenga buen dia...... :
