Awesome pointers, I think at least. I'll be trying these on my 8mo old duchie starting today! She is smart, maybe smarter than I am :)

Nice, calm approach. Will definitely try this with my lagotto. Not as large as a Malinois but she definitely has the drive to work with me.

What do you do when your dog is not food orientated , has no interest at all outside…i have tried his favorite treats, chicken, beef etc…he is oblivious to me on the outside inside the house. He’s great total focus just can’t get into focus on the outside no matter what I have done.HELP

Hello, you can try feeding 50% of your dog's diet from the bowl and the other 50% during training outside. In some cases, we feed 100% of the dogs' daily rations during training temporarily until behavioral habits are formed, and then we go back to a regular feed schedule.

Some dogs we have them work for their food. Instead of feeding from a bowl, we feed from a pouch during training. Whether it be 50% or 100% of their daily rations.

@@geminik-9obedienceinc258 I tried hand feeding and my dog just will not take food from me, even in the house. I would love to teach him heel but find it virtually impossible as I can't lure him into that position. He will happily starve himself for days rather than take food!

Love your videos! But I have a issue with my newest pup, that I have not had with any of my other shepherds. I can not for the life of me get him to move with me. It’s easy to get him into correct position, he sits straight 8/10 times. But I have issues with both getting him to elongate his neck upwards, and even if I start super slow, walking in place, and then slowly moving my left foot forward, he will not move with me. Been working on this for weeks now.

Rewatching this as I’m moving to a new level of expectations with my younger dog. Couple of questions: 1. When do you introduce the “heel” command? Trying to pick up from the video but you don’t always say “heel” specifically. 2. My older dog doesn’t like being right beside me, he is slightly behind and a step away. Should I force him to be close or just be happy he gives the focus? Thanks as always. Will need to come back for a refresher with my boys in the summer.

You can introduce the command right from the beginning. I find it doesn't make any difference. The dog will pick it up. For your older dog, if you're using bait, circling to your right with the bait at a slow to moderate pace can help provided you're using a high value treat.

@@geminik-9obedienceinc258 thank you. One more question, in the sequence when do you use the word “heel” to issue the command when training? So part of phase one, should I even say “heel” or only after we start movement as part phase 2? Again appreciate this amazing advice and direction.

Issue the Heel command half a second before stepping off. Always remember, your command precedes the behavior.
