A trick I do with the Bose Wave radio to get better sound from the tuner is to connect a Sony SRF-A100 radio to the Bose's Aux in jacks on the back. I do this because, and alot of people don't realize this, is that the tuner in the Bose is MONO and narrow-band, and you can get broad band reception and stereo reception on the SRF-A100 Sony. Just doing an A and B comparison between the Bose tuner and the Sony tuner tuned to the same radio station reveals a world of difference in fidelity.

I got a CD for Christmas over the weekend along with 100 packs of CD-R, I have to go back and buy CD’s for the first time since the last decade. CD’s are much smaller and more cheaper than getting a Vinyl LP that you can get from a thrift store, yard sale, flea markets and antique stores. Once in a while, I might get vinyl LP, and also, I’m getting CD’s each and every month. I also have my Victrola all-in-one stereo system from 2019 that I got for Christmas where it has a cheap plastic turntable like the one that Crosley was using at the time, an FM only radio without AM, a front loading cassette player and a CD player and it will play CD’s, and I also have my 2017 Hasbro “My Little Pony: The Movie” karaoke machine and it plays CD’s too and both works good with no issues.

One might search at recyclers for a drive that might be compatible. Another option might be a blue tooth receiver in place of the drive, use your smart phone as a music source. Just a thought. I remember I bought an ID camera at a state auction that tales Polaroid Type 107 film. It had a heavy rattle inside. Yup another dropped casualty. A PC board mounted power transformer ripped from the main board. Luckily the wires to the windings were still accessible. Added wire to the windings and soldered those leads to the pins that were still soldered to the main board. Added a tie wrap around transformer and main board. Works just fine to this day, only minor issue is that film is no longer available from Polaroid but Fuji Film make it in Japan.

The optical pickup might be available as an aftermarket. Haven't checked it to see. It does have auxiliary input jack on the back so a $10 Bluetooth receiver could easily be plugged into it and use for streaming from phone. Also one of those arlyic preamp boards that I've shown in several videos and what I actually use here at home could be plugged into the aux input. Not only would that give Bluetooth capability but also a Wi-Fi internet radio with streaming ability. Play any radio or music service from anywhere in the world through these great sounding speakers and amplifier. If it was mine that's what I would do I would just plug one of those small Arctic preamp boards into it and be done. The radio here always playing in the background is one of those garlic boards but in this case it was the plate amp that I mounted into a pair of old speakers from a JVC mini system. They sit on the other side of the workshop and I leave them playing 24 hours a day

I could just use a DVD player and plug it into the aux with MP3 discs but I'd like to have it all in one machine so I will be looking for a replacement pickup if I can find one. also if I could find a three disc stacker to go with it I could just plug that in too because it does support the three dish changer even though that piece is a piece of unreliable junk. 2 words.... The Sound! They sound simply amazing. What you are paying for is the patented tuned port on the speaker. They are expensive and if looked after will last a long time. They were untill recently manufactured in the US so that also was reflected in the price as it costs a lot more to make stuff here than it does in China, Mexico and Vietnam. Workers are paid a living wage and that is reflected in the cost of the product.
@rich_edwards79
Жыл бұрын
@@12voltvids that's fair enough. I have heard very mixed reviews of them. Some that the sound quality is indeed incredible for a tabletop unit and that the seemingly hyperbolic advertising is justified. Others say that it's a lot of money for off-the shelf components and a load of moulded channels. I don't mind paying for quality so i guess I'll have to see if I can have a listen to one and make up my own mind :) The UK 220v versions seem to be made in Ireland, which like you say will have much more stringent labour laws and better wages than China.
@12voltvids

@@rich_edwards79 there are some wing nuts our there that look at the components and see what those components would sell for and then decide what the price of the device should be. They don't take into considering engineering and devolopment costs, manufacturing costs, distribution costs, marketing costs, retail or direct marketing profit. I worked in retail for 20 years. I may have ran the repair shop but there was a retail store attatched. The profit was far far higher than anyone imagined. Something that cost 200 would sell for 350. Sonethjbgvthatvwas 100 would typically sell 150. A 1000 tv set really only cost the dealer aboyt 650. That way they could discount it to 875, show the customer that we were only making 25 bucks and close the deal. Customer welt warm and fuzzy thinking they got a deal bwe still made 225 on the TV. There were 2 price lists. The real one that was in the back and the one at the front counter that would often be left open to snooping customers eyes. They thought they were getting a good deal and they were being pounded with the big corporate dick.

@@williamblackwell9558 his marketing was to the masses and to the majority of people his speakers sounded fantastic. Maybe not to someone with a trained ear but to the average person that big sound from such a small box especially considering the size of speakers that people were used to seeing. It's a no-brainer that people wanted small. Not everyone has a huge room to put huge speakers in. I have a big room to listen to music in and I have some pretty good size speakers on the various systems that I have. But a lot of people don't a lot of people are living in small apartments or small condos and they don't have the space but they still want something that sounds better than a transistor radio. those are the people that Bose marketed their products to and they did very well doing it. The only Bose system I actually own other than this one that was given to me is the Bose systems in my car that were factory. They sound damn good

Calling this a "Public Service Announcment from Bose" is a lie, a legal question, and reason for deletion.
