The Ford Cortinas of 1962 through to 1982, with several of their Ford of Germany "Taunus" cousins, make up this 110+ photo collection.
Various examples of the Ford Cortina Mk1 are dotted throughout this collection, including example(s) of the Lotus Cortina Mk1, the Super, GT, and the estate versions. In 1966 the Mk2 came along, and examples of Cortina-Lotus Mk2, 1600E, and less plushly-appointed versions are all to be found, photographed by myself over the last 20 or so years at classic car shows and in motor museums. The Mk3 of 1970 to 1976 features regularly, as do the Mk4 (1976 - 1979) and the Mk5 (1979 - 1982) Cortinas. Rarities include the South Africa-market XR6 (based on the Mk5), and the wild Starcraft camper kit which uses a Mk3-Mk5 Cortina as its donor vehicle. A replica of the Ford Saxon proposal of the early 1960s also features, as does the ex-Bill Bengry London-to-Sydney Mk2 rally car. A fastback version of the Mk3, the Taunus GXL from Germany, provides an interesting comparison to the Mk3s marketed here in the UK. Several V6 Savages, based on the Mk2, are also to be found here, as are Crayford convertibles.
Comments welcomed as always, the Ford Cortina was a huge seller for the parent company throughout the 1960s and 1970s so plenty of people here will have their own experiences of these cars, good and bad I imagine! The Ford Sierra that came along after was a very different looking vehicle indeed, even if under the skin it wasn't much more advanced than the outgoing Cortina in many cases.
