If you don't know: A lot of cars have their air intake low down (often around the wheel arch)... If water gets sucked into the engine and makes its way to the cylanders there's a real problem: Air compresses but water doesn't, so when water gets into the cylanders it can't compress which causes the pistons and engine to blow themselves to bits... That's the hydro-locking that our excellent narrator keeps mentioning.

If they don't know to follow the first wave maintaining the same speed, then after flooding their engines they likely don't know they can just pull out their spark plugs, turn engine over a couple times to clear the water out through the sparkplug holes and re-insert the spark plugs after drying them off to drain a flooded engine... a bit of water in the crankcase will evaporate as steam as long as you aren't race revving your engines... in fact a bit of water passing through the combustion chambers on the running engine can help clean off some of the carbon buildup... Establish your limits before expanding them... This is definitely the most memorable school bus ride in the morning..

Not many if any of these have actually hydrolocked despite the confidence of the internet experts. To hydrolock a cylinder has to be nearly 90% full of water. Most of them are simply suffering with a water logged air filter preventing air entering the engine. If you suffer something similar remove the filter, put the car in a high gear and push it forward a few yards to remove any excess water. If it’s a petrol engined car you can remove the spark plugs to check if there’s any water in the cylinders.

Depends on the depth, if the air intake is going to get submerged regardless then no but if your bow wave is going to be what causes the issue then maybe. A lot of people who end up in trouble here just go too fast and turn an otherwise wadable depth into an engine drowning disaster. Check the depth, check how low your intake sits, approach slowly and wait for the ripple to settle before proceeding at a slow but constant pace.

The instant the air intake takes in lets for example say water instead of air it will flood the engine and eventually hydro-lock it, That's basically the brief aaa thing that we just thoroughly enjoyed here. I haven't heard of a modern car that has water separators in the intake. Inevitably the cylinders will be filled with water in all modern cars when the water levels have reached the intake which has to be behind the front grille for it to take in cool air. If a person has not fitted an aftermarket snorkel or bought a car that has been designed for the job then a low riding car can be driven progressively slowly through 300mm of standing water for a short period of time up to 3-4 mph when one has surplus 10 grand spare cash and decides to create a small bow wave whilst trying to win an extra inch of clearance- good luck with that trying it first time in a new car as the cooling fan sucks water into the intake by every passing second. Insurance companies will not repair a hydrolocked engine because a modern car has literally hundreds of control modules and the seals around them are not designed to withstand constant water pressure. By that I mean that a car is usually not designed to drive on water. From the heading I can understand that there where a bunch of cars that made a conscious decision to destroy themselves- You'd have to be mentally ill or pretentious to make such loosey goosey assumptions. What about an honest heading. Proudly Ignorant youtuber Abam C3046 makes innocent little videos and decides not to warn passing drivers as they go bankrupt. And you are proud to post it online. But what really sets an example of humanity is us literally ''loving''that content. We obviously are careless, stupid, ignorantly sickening pieces of trash that have nothing better to do than to laugh at fellow citizens misery- And so am I. At least I am certain of it and dare to say it out. For crying out loud warn people, do something useful instead of creating added tension sitting like a hyena waiting to pounce for totally writing off their second most valuable properties. I am so fed up with living in that world. I have tried killing myself but unfortunately without results and I honestly consider myself one of the luckiest dummies who have ever lived, I can not imagine how empty and miserable your life has to be to enjoy ordinary people with mortgages falling in a financial sinkhole within seconds. Living in Indonesia, this is quite a common occurrence (flood instead of ford though), especially in rainy season (as expected I guess). So it's quite wild for me that someone made a video as if this is something special lol. Also TIL that Golf R32 is really weak lol. One time when I was a kid, my dad went through a flood with a similar water lever through quite a long road (or at least longer than this ford) with a '91 Mazda 323 Interplay. It survived to this day, now with me using it as a daily driver.

Adam at Rufford? Oh, yeah! I'll watch that! I'd like to see someone doing a burnout on the edge of the Ford. That would be interesting...

Fun fact, my citroen hydrolocked in this very ford. Not because the water level was too high, it was nice and low. Not because I drove like an idiot, I was nice and gentle. No, turns out that the air intake resonator, which on that car was located at the very bottom of the engine bay, had a hole broken in it! So it was effectively like putting a straw in the river and the engine slurped it up! Haha! Luckily since I was going slow nothing was damaged, after I got home I removed the glow plugs, cranked the engine to spot the water out, and the old girl lived on another 2 years!

It's always impressive how much torque the starter motor has enough to bend and snap rods if the engine is full of water
@banditdarville.
Жыл бұрын
More than likely the rods are already bent before even attempting to restart the engine....... Bear in mind that the normal operating temperature of the piston crown on a petrol engine is around 300° Celcius, so as soon as the water enters the cylinder, it is most likely turning to steam and expanding rapidly as the piston is trying to compress it (and any water in liquid form will not compress anyway)....... It is no wonder why con rods get bent.......

REMEMBER! When you are about to cross the ford by a car: cross slowly and deliberately! - unless you want to have serious problems and even more serious costs/spendings... 1. Move the car to the roadside, turn the engine off and wait few minutes to cool down the brake discs, block of the engine, turbochargers, exhaust pipes, mufflers etc. to avoid the thermal shock: especially worn/thin discs tend to bend during rapid cooling, but thermal shock is never a good idea/case to any really hot part of the car because it can effects in cracks in their structure. 2. During entering and crossing the ford: a) go so slowly to not splash the water nor to allow the water-entering to the bay of the engine through the front grill (to have some kind of persistently lower water level in front of the front bumper (than the actual water level of the ford is) by gentle pushing the wave forward; so don't go too slow; but better too slow (but remember your car doors aren't waterproof), than too fast (because your car combustion system is definitely not water-resistant don't even mentioning being waterproof)). b) and drive at a constant rate of speed (never acelerate: it prevents the water wave to increase and start to pour over the hood/bonnet of the car; only exception could be when you are already leaving the ford and increasing the speed will not have an outcome in increased level of the front wave compared to the level of the front bumper). 3. If you have front-engine car (and usually you do) you can consider crossing the ford by driving backwards, if possible. 4. And you can't forgot that car - especially the passenger one - is buoyable (unless it is finally sunk), so crossing too deep ford will end in losing contact with the ford, therefore it will end in epic failure of the crossing attempt usually... calculate the aftermath before there will be no choice :D
