I've got a great method for lowering high spots in lawn. Use a pro plugger to remove cores from high areas.. Fill the holes with water. Use a deep root water litigator to liquify the dirt underneath the turf. Wait 20 minutes. Step on the lawn. It will lower the turf since the dirt comes up through the holes. It's super easy and quick. Please do a video on this.

I just used a tiller and chopped the dirt up. I then leveled the dirt and used a roller to to flatten it

This is a helpful video. I've been hitting mine with a tiller, but because I didn't remove the grass and I have a cheap tiller, I keep needing to stop and yank all the weeds/grass off of it. I have more low spots than high spots, but there are still quite a few. All these "superflat" videos are way better than what I'm starting with. There's tons of potholes in the yard. I just want it flat enough in the rose garden area to use my reel mower without any issues.

I put 1” tabs on the sides of my lute. I did this to prepare, level the soil 1” lower that the foot path. This ensured that when the turf was laid it would be “level” with the path.

I made a leveling tool with a 4x4 post, that you just drag around, basically a hand box grader, it shows the high spots and low spots great and no bending over, you just gotta get it close then run that over it and it will grab the excess soil and distribute it evenly along the length

How about using the scarifier to pulverize the top layer and the raking it off?

Just what I was thinking. Using the Sun Joe would be a great method. I think I'm gonna try that out.

Can't you just use the detatcher with the blades set to braze the surface of the dirt and then with a rake, just displace the loosened soil from that high spot? Would it work?

Did you abandon the scarifier technique?

scarifier technique is a seasonal benefit technique. Do it 2-3 times a year over a few season and incremental improvement will win in the end. This technique shown in this video is great for quick repair of a truly high spot. Notice I didn't evert once mention this would be useful for anyone that wasn't ready to seed into the repair zone afterwards. If I kept scarifying the full parkway strip periodically over the next few years then it would flatten itself out eventually but I'm planning on reseeding that area so in that regard, yes, I decided to take the fast repair job featured in this video over the slow gradual scarifier method. I'll probably film some of the footage on the parkway strip of my reno but won't likely make a full video on this technique. I want to get my buffalo growing there before summer.

What’s your thoughts on a few random high spots in the lawn? I was considering doing a full sand level but the more I look at it, it’s really a few high spots and then I feel pretty good about the level of the majority. I have Bermuda, so I mean couldn’t I theoretically take down the spots in a similar manner and then just let the Bermuda spread back in or even take some plugs or sprigs from another area?

depends on how low you mow. With Bermuda some people go crazy and drop it well below an inch, but if you are around 2" then high spots are far easier to ignore. One other option not discussed in this video is to use a flat edge shovel to cut sod chunks out of the high spot then remove soil from below those chunks, then place the chunks back on the lawn where the high spot used to be. Obviously you would take care to make clean cuts and level the ground under the sod chunks you pulled so that they sit flat once you replace them but it does work. Otherwise just get a manual core aerator and remove cores from the high spots every couple months. Over time the high spots will settle slightly lower making them less dramatic. Takes a long time though.

@@TurfMechanic oh wow! See you gave me a couple more ways to look at it! I do in fact have a manual, so I will grab some cores out! I like the idea of getting the soil out from under too. All good ideas! Thank you!
