This time, we will introduce the Former Yamamoto family residence. If you search the Former Yamamoto residence on SNS, you will find many Former Yamamoto residences.
This video features the Former Yamamoto residence located at 70 Okihama, Aboshi-ku, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The main building is a Western-style building built in the middle of the Taisho period (1912-1926 AD) in front of the entrance, and a Japanese-style building behind it built in the early Meiji period.
The Former Yamamoto Family Residence is the first important urban landscape building based on the urban landscape ordinance of Himeji City.
It is said that this building was mainly built by Mr. Shinzo Yamamoto.
Shinzo Yamamoto (1877-1945) made a fortune in match factories and knitwear factories, and served as mayor of Aboshi Town and president of Aboshi Bank.
From the Western-style watchtower, which is said to have been erected by Shinzo Yamamoto, it is said that Himeji Castle, the Ibo River, and ships carrying clothes from Kagawa Prefecture could be seen.
The building is extravagant and I feel that I can measure the financial power of Shinzo Yamamoto at that time.
It seems that the stones used in the garden were ordered from Kagawa Prefecture, probably because of work. Of course, around the building, a lot of Tatsuyama stone, which is mined near the local area, is used.
The fact that Aboshi was an enclave of the Sanuki Marugame clan (Kyogoku clan) during the Edo period may have had an effect on the connection between Aboshi and Kagawa Prefecture.
The road in front of the entrance of the former Yamamoto residence is called the Murotsu Highway, and if you go a little west along that road, you will find the site of the Marugame clan's Aboshi Jinya.
It is open to the public on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month with an admission fee of 300 yen.
The explanations given by local volunteers were very useful.
I felt like I got a glimpse of the good old days of Japan.
