@@Emporator Timing. AFAIK, it had to do with them being produced by Enoch Light, who was a classical musician as well as a big band leader, and recording engineer, and whose music was geared toward older audiences of the day, rather than the younger audiences. He wanted a particular softer sound. Unfortunately, their sound, while softer, was a bit too "modern" for older audiences, who wanted more of what they were used to in the 30s-50s, and who associated them with folk-singers (and by extension, "hippies" - even though they weren't), and conversely, their softer/mellow sound was seen as too "old-fashioned" for younger crowds, who wanted rock & roll, and who were tired of folk-music, which they saw as outdated and dull. If they had been about 5-7 years earlier, or, even if they had had some mainstream-sounding numbers in their repertoire that included more crossover instruments in their arrangements (ie: electric guitar, drums, etc.) for instance, like Carpenters did, they probably would have been bigger.

I always thought that was it. They were late in the game when it came to the folk era of the 1960's. It's almost amazing that Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian or Melanie Anne Safka Schekeryk were able to have careers into the 1970's.

After The Beach Boys, The Free Design were absolutely the most brilliant American pop group of the 1960 and early ‘70s, despite a lack of charting hits. They used very complex multi-part moving harmonies, vocal dissonance, and sophisticated jazz-based chord voicings. In addition, Chris wrote gorgeous and unique melodies and, in spite of the lovely music, lyrics that were not afraid to touch on serious, uncomfortable, and, at times, dark aspects of life. Finally, the fact that the singers were all talented siblings (the particular lineup changed from album to album) ensured a special warm vocal blend. The Free Design has had a profound influence on important pop, rock, and avant-garde bands up until the present day. Stereolab, as one example, has often emulated the style of singing and melody writing of the band and even named one of their finest songs after The Free Design.

It is about the Freaksters, a hippie group I've explained to you time and time again! And, to further the good fortune, I'm adding extra details! [Verse 1] Hector's a Guy Who's Always Cool and Chill A Fun Guy to Have Around He's The Guy Who Lifts You Up Whenever Your Feelings Are Down! [Refrain] C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! [Verse 2] Sunday's a Girl, and She's So Laid-Back! She's a Peace-Lover for Your Age! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! [Verse 4] Cajun's Laid-Back! A Very Cool Fox! He's Never Filled with Wrath! But Be Careful! Better Watch Out! He Can Be a Bit of a Psychopath! Here's a Hint: He's a Hippie and Not a Doctor! That's Right! It's Our Friend Vindaloo! [Refrain] C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! C'mon, Let's Get Freaky! @@BloatedPizzaRolls Ok! Let's review! Hector: He is an adolescent teenage boy. He is a blue tall boy with fluffy messy purple hair and some pimples on his face. He wears plain denim jeans and wears a red and white shirt, with some sneakers. He's chill, cool, and supportive, even around others. Sunday: A peace-loving flowerchild who is Hector's girlfriend. She is a pink skinned teenage girl with green hair. She wears a red headband, tan shirt, orange shorts, gold bracelet, rings on each finger and yellow cowboy boots with flowers. She enjoys vibing to music, drum circles, caking herself in mud, and even "getting it on" with the males. Lupita: Hector's little sister. She is a young, light blue-skinned girl with dark purple hair. She wears lavender hair clips, a bandage on her right elbow, a gray tank top, a green vest with pockets, blue jeans, and gray boots. She's imaginative, eccentric, creative, and rambunctious for her age. She even like hippies and would like to be one, however, she has a lot left to learn if she wants to be like a hippie. Cajun Fox: An orange fox who wears sunglasses. He talks in a laid-back tone, which, to compliment that fact, matches his hippie personality. However, he can be a bit of a psycho, as he is cunning, sly, and mischievous. Dr. Vindaloo: He's a doctor (or what he appears to be) from India. Everything about him is presumed to be a bit complicated for some: Personality: Dr. Vindaloo's medical skills are lack luster and his powers of observation are arguably worse. Often, he passes off easily identifiable malignant conditions as being of no concern with the refrain: "It's nothing to worry about, nothing at all, [but] there is nothing I can do [at all]." and usually recommends his patients to "just keep soaking it" as a universal remedy. The reason why he acts like this is because he's actually a "new-age retro hippie" with a laid-back persona, who visions of women, psychedelic insects (moths and butterflies, for example), fairies (most notably "Muriel fairies"), and what he likes to call "the wonderfully wacky world of eroticness". Evidently, Dr. Vindaloo can be bribed with a high enough sum of money, as he is willing to bypass doctor-patient confidentiality in "Bad Hair Day". He has an odd habit of plucking or shaving hair from areas of his body (other odd habits of his include digging into his navel, clipping his nails, choking his chicken (which is slang for... well... you know what I mean), the joys of consuming psychedelic drugs, etc.). Appearance: On most occasions, he is seen in his normal garments. When he's with his friends, here's what he actually looks like. Dr. Vindaloo had long, shoulder-length hair with a tie-dyed headband. On his eyes, he wore sunglasses. He wore an orange vest with fringes, which went with a short sleeve button down T-shirt dyed green. On his legs he wore bellbottom jeans. Funny Fun Facts and Totally Cool Trivia: Dr. Vindaloo is even referred as "M.D. Quack", a play on "quack doctor". This word means an unqualified practitioner or someone impersonating as a doctor. In other words, Dr. Vindaloo 's medical advice, skills, and duties may be signs of malpractice, presumably implying he is indeed a hippie. The Hidden Hippie: Judging by the information said above, Vindaloo, the _supposed_ doctor, is actually a hippie at heart with a desire for all things freaky and groovy. Unfortunately, he never mentioned this to the Bagge family (and even Courage for that matter). Maybe it's because he didn't want anyone to find out his unconventional lifestyle, or mainly maintain an air or mystique. Hallucinatory Escapes: Now, as mentioned above, Dr. Vindaloo's hallucinations lead him away from the "modern society", a satire on the mundane, boring, and ordinary life. Maybe due to how he found solace in his mind's kaleidoscope. This was also implied in "Wrath of the Librarian", where he went to "Fairyland", when in reality, this was actually an excuse he made to Courage and Muriel, so he can reminisce of his hippie days. This plan worked, as this is what he called "a psychedelic getaway". Woodstock Revisited: Vindaloo's acid-filled adventures at the music festival filled with peace, love, and rock and roll might've been the wild trip for him. And his friends, the Freaksters, could everything they wanted with him, like mud caking, music vibing, drum circling, and more. The Unmasking: It is unknown if he might reveal his true identity to the Bagge family. Why, their reactions would be priceless if they ever found out that the _supposed_ doctor is actually a peace-loving flowerchild that goes on hallucinogenic journeys.

Very talented musical family band. They would have been much more popular if they had a more catchy name for their band and a certain look by changing their costumes into more colorful attire characteristics attire that reflects what they are singing about. What I see is bland and the name of the band is bland that is why they did not make it big. If they explored more adventurous tones in their music with more dramatic storytelling and sound effects it would have made more of a difference.
