We hope 2024 is a bright fuiture for Fighting Games and some of then fix some of his issues between pricing and be more promotional in events in between tournaments and DLC.

I think both cross play and more in-depth training mode features are gonna be the big things that the FGC pushes for in future fighting game releases. Hopefully we get to the point where having frame data available inside training mode is just considered standard.

I dont think all this stuff is gonna convince casuals to play more, single player and coop is more important and arcade mode just doesnt cut it. but it helps foster active communities around all games, keeping them alive.

Crossplay for sure. Its mandatory, I want puzzle games go get this as well so puyo puyo, tetris because we need playerbase and if its split it just hurts the game because they're niche already.

This past year and the year coming have just been so important and big for the fgc. Trying to appeal to casuals more with story content and simpler controls. Just a huge reboot for the fgc with big steps they are taking to appeal and get these games out to the public. More money in tournaments and the pro scene with the big drop of capcom cup and these big prize pool announcements. Relating to this riot games dropping a fg is so important because they have always been able to create a good esports scene. They will lead by example if they can handle Project L correct. As far as micro transactions go I really dont mind them. People gotta get with the times. Season/battle passes just work so effectively for companies and dedicated players alike. Im not a fan in the base increase for skins across the board but they arent a necessary to play. Theres a lot more but such a big jump for the fgc in general this past year.

Yea your right one of the things I did forget to mention that came with this idea of developers focusing more on console versions of game is that they are also becoming more like full fledge products rather than feeling like arcade ports which they originally were.

I'm no casual but simpler controls is just logical step in the right direction. I switched to modern in sf6 and my experience with game improved greatly, same with my ranking. I look forward to the next generation of fgs akin to granblue that balance the game around the new controls.

Justifying shitty micro transactions and battle passes in FULL PRICE games is beyond me. The base game for a full price game HAS to be content rich without exception and the vast majority of additional content should be included in Season Passes, anything else should cost half the price of full on DLC for the ENTIRE bundle not more.

I’m really picky so I like that there’s a lot of options out there now, SF6 and MK aren’t my vibes, and I’ve been having a blast with Granblue. As for the upcoming games I’m not too interested in them, except maybe Tekken 8 but I’ve never played Tekken so I’m not sure if I would enjoy the 3d style and it seems hard to get into, if there was a free version I would absolutely try it just because it’s so hyped up lol. Project L looks… not that promising, I don’t like the way it looks or how it plays, it seems kind of cheaply made? Idk how to describe it lol, just looks clunky and stiff.

I agree with A LOT of what you wrote: SF6 & MK1 - also not my cup of tea; GBVSR - absolutely love the game and I cannot stop playing it; Tekken 8 - I actually bought a PlayStation for "Tekken 3" and later PlayStation 2 for "Tekken 5"... But later I fell out of love with the franchise; Project L - I have ZERO interest. I've never played LOL (and don't want to) so I don't care for the characters. Tag element actually pushes me away even further. But it's gonna sell well.

Project L used to look promising but I'm not a fan of tag fighting games as well. Granblue is great. I think their approach to easy input is great. The game is balanced around them which isn't the case in other titles such as sf6 where players are penalized for using modern with dmg reduction.

What I hope is gonna happen is developers putting more emphasis on player retention. We all know that when it comes to fighting games the playerbase falls quicker compared to other genres. Casual players are crucial to a games success and Season/Character Passes are more attractive to pro-players and those who simply love fighting games in general. I think giving people other stuff to do inside the game should be the next step - that's why I love the idea of a "Fall Guys" style mode inside "Grandblue Fantasy Versus: Rising". There are also loads of gamers who have a passing interest in fighting games but are intimidated by the idea of going online and getting destroyed so they focus on single player content. Developers should look into evolving that side of their titles cause there's money to be made by doing so and the games themselves will live longer.

I think as an unmentioned part of the new understanding that online play is important for the game that has led to rollback and crossplay is also the importance of a good matchmaking system. I don't know what changed, but I remember my brief attempts to play fighting game before, you go online and get absolutely one sided matches again and again and again and again and again and it never stops. Even in SF6 now, which I'm trash at, I can go online and get matches that feel way more fair. GBVSR I haven't had what felt like a truly lopsided match where I'm utterly outclassed except one time casual put me against an S rank Nier and I would probably have still managed it had I passed the knowledge check. Not forcing people to just lose to better players and having an ecosystem of casual, lower tier play online will do a lot to retain casuals.

@@verxintRising I actually don't like the ranked system in GBVSR. The combination of having to make a choice with permanent consequences before you even start playing AND not being able to rank down is poorly thought out in my opinion. It has already led to players being constantly matched up against people above their skill level and now they can't get out of this situation - this might actually discourage casuals from playing the game.

Going to be really interesting to see how the FGC is doing in 2 years from now when there is no new SF, Tekken or Mortal Kombat on the horizon. Project L might not be enough especially considering LoL is not as popular as it used to be and probably won’t be as relevant in 2026

For me, unfortunately, execution is a big part of why I play fighting games. Doing sick ass, high execution stuff gets me hyped and it's even more hype to see in tournaments. Project L has simplified execution so much that it misses the mark. I think it's going to be a good stepping stone for getting people into more traditional fighting games though.
@ZephyrK.

I severely doubt Smash players will stick around Project L for long at least competitively. The game may have simplified inputs but my god is it mechanically rich and complex ON TOP of being a tag team fighter. Many creators who played the current version have all claimed without fail that the current build of the game is THE most non beginner friendly fighting game on the market. It genuinely shocked them how sweaty the game, like the private in house tournaments Grand Final ALONE between Justin Wong and SonicFox took a FKN HOUR to complete. When you consider it’s mostly made by fighting game pros and legends of old through, it makes sense. Easy to pickup casually, unbelievably tough to master competitively pretty much.

Don't want to sound like an asshole but this is my perspective. I think the future might look bright and nice for a casual competitor per se or for a fighting game enyojer. People who already are invested in the genre look at the future with mostly positive feelings. I believe even with wonderful thing like rollback, cross play, support for older games, accessibility and easier games. The average gamer or competitive games enjoyer won't even look at fighting games because who really like to work for their entertainment? Most people who try to get into the genre are either incapable of stomaching their losses or just practice a 236 for like 2 minutes and give up. I love these games and now that I'm finally getting somewhat competent it fills me with joy seeing all these features and improvements. However, I don't really think this game FGs are getting out of the niche corner, regular people who play games just don't want to lose over and over and over again. Why would they research and practice if they may think that they will still lose and not have fun? Again, for those who love the genre stuff looking great for the most part. For casuals and people from the outside I think they only noticed Strive and SF6, maybe MK. If people who have an interest want to learn they will do research, play and keep on grinding. Saw this frost hand in League and Overwatch, but you can't really blame your losses on teammates and whatnot. Just my perspective and experiences tho.
@DaikenFGC

This comment is far from being rude bro! Your right fighting games are pretty niche. A big conversation within the community for the longest has been “how do we grow” is it up to developers to make games more accessible? Or are fighting games doomed to be niche by the very nature of the genre? It’s an interesting discussion that I define you want to make videos on!
@ZephyrK.

I never get it when someone who plays other competitive genres says this about FGs. By saying they feel better by blaming their losses on their teammates, doesn’t that just mean they’re carried? If so, I can’t find a single reason why that would be enjoyable. Your teammates are probably berating you for playing terribly and costing them all the game which I’d imagine is a MUCH shitter feeling then just losing to a stronger opponent in a FG. I could be wrong though idk, I barely play FPS and MOBAs but the occasional times I do, I still perform passably.

@@ZephyrK. I think they feel better because their ego doesn't get as hurt, I feel like no other game exposes your mistakes the way FGs so it's better for some to say that than to just accept their are bad and/or they don't know how to play. Just what I've gather from personal experience in those games.

labbing motion inputs themselves isnt hard, its successfully inputting combo strings with motion inputs that takes a lot more time and effort. The reality is, competitive shooters have a lot more foa gentle learning curve, which means people will still pour thousands of hours into thwm but wont feel completely helpless at the beginning.
