The interesting thing about jumping hybrids is how you don't need big current, you just need enough to run the security checks allowing the car to power up. Then the big battery recharges the accessory battery in the background while running. These capacitive chargers are taking over. I have a NOCO capacitive charger and it works great, even with big old engines. Strangely it has more trouble charging a phone than it does cranking a starter motor on a regular engine. Yours is different in the sense it doesn't need to hold a charge at all! I like the way you can recharge the charger with the dead battery.

I have this exact jump starter. One negative aspect of this jump starter is that; it doesn't have an override mode. Meaning if your battery is stone-cold dead as in zero volts, you'd charge the capacitor elsewhere and then bring it back to your zero voltage battery, you are then unable to commence the jump because this jump starter needs at least a few volts to "turn on" the jump pack. As a work-around, I carry a spare 12volt drill battery and place in parallel. Other than this aspect, it's a great tool, with nicely made cables.

You can just carry a 9V battery for that purpose, it just needs to sense a voltage, not draw power from it.

I also have a Schumacher DSR108 capacitor jump pack, which has also worked for me each time, but I just prefer the Gen 1 Autowit.

Good to see a real world test of the unit. The Project farm channel just did a big test that included this unit along with several battery type jump packs. I had an old cell phone battery “inflate” itself after the phone had been sitting in a desk unused for a couple of years. This is much safer than leaving charged lithium ion batteries sitting in your trunk going through heat cycles for a year or more.

I've had problems with the Li-ion batteries in jump packs puffing up. They also don't seem to have a very long lifespan. That is why I feel this may be a great alternative. Supercapacitors can last a very long time. Thanks for watching!

It would have been interesting to see the comparison of the jump packs under extreme cold. The capacitor units should be less affected than the lithium batteries. It was tested with the cold temps in the video, and apparently the lithium packs wouldn't work at the low temperatures, and had to be warmed up first to work properly.

If using this on a diesel, cycle the ignition on and leave it in ON. Then it will cycle the glow plugs when going from hood to cab then use key like a gas car and start cranking. If key is off on a diesel the plugs will take that power first then leftover goes to the battery. For my semi truck I use the 1,000 amp OZ rescue mate and have 4 of them. One for each battery as all are connected. It combines as 48 volt and 4,000 amp when all 4 are activated at once. Great technology. As calling fora semi truck jump start can cost $700 or more. Having jumped several trucks like this, yeah super capacitors do work. Though note if battery is below 1 or 2 volts a full capacitor may not be strong enough to turn it over. A cheat would be to prime the car battery with the capacitor. To do this charge device. Send charge to battery for the full count down without trying to start it. Note voltage when connected. Should be a little higher. So, charge and send,”prime”, the battery again. Dis connect for a couple seconds. Reconnect and charge again, prime again. After 3 or for primings, on the last run, charge again and then when ready try to crank again. The dead battery needs to be able to hold a charge or priming won’t work. The priming is to get battery above 2 volts or better. If no jumper cables are available, like personal vehicle dead but work vehicle running, hook to running battery for few second nds and “prime” dead car a couple times before cranking. Hope that helps increase its usefulness as it did for me.

The longevity aspect is why I have three supercap jumpstarter units, each in different cars. So far I've had occasion to use them about 6 or 7 times over the years, and they've worked every time. Most frequent one has been a Camaro V6, which sometimes inexplicably draws a very large amount of current on a warm start, after been driven but just parked for a short time of 40 minutes. Usually no problem when cold or sitting for a month parked, go figure. I've measured the peak starting current in the thing at 520A with the regular battery, and so far the capacitor jump packs have done it every time, even so. If your car is in poor condition and won't start without extended cranking, then you'll be best served with the lithium packs, which can crank for longer periods for each try. You will have to expect to replace them much more frequently because they'll deteriorate over time, especially when kept at full charge for long periods. If you can, keep it at somewhere below 70% charge instead of keeping it topped off all the time, because they'll last longer that way. It should still be sufficient to start with that charge level. Better still, another vehicle to provide the jump power, which is probably better as the voltage will remain in safer territory than the jump packs, which all deliver much higher voltages than the normal operating range.

You being a mechanic I am surprised you continued to drive with a dead battery that you jump started 15 times. This puts tremendous stress on the charging system not to mention all of the various computer modules that can be damaged or at the very least not operate correctly if they don't have enough operating voltage . Gone are the days of the 80amp alternator. Today you are looking at 100 plus and its there to give ample power to all the electronics . In the technology of 30 years ago it was acceptable to test an alternator on a vehicle by disconnecting a battery. Today if you do that you run the risk of damaging electronic components not to mention also most manufacturers use AGM batteries which are charged differently and in point of fact many of these batteries have a feed back to the ECM to indicate charge level and so when the battery is replaced the ECM has to be "recalibrated" or learn the vehicle has a new battery as to not over charge the new battery

Very good point. Before jump-starting a battery, open circuit voltage should be checked. If have about 10.5 volts, have a SHORTED CELL. It will not be possible to jump start it. If have essentially zero volts , 0.5 volts, have an OPEN CELL. THe car will jump start just fine, but the alternator will not operate correctly and may produce as much as 30 volts or so -- death to the electronics. I have a better option, how about having one built into the car? My car does and it's nice having that option, a couple of years back I arrived to work and turned on a reading lamp and forgot to turn it off. The high for the day was around 5°F. 10 hours later the car failed to remote start. I had to walk to the car and activate the jump start function and was able to go home without having to open the hood in that kind of temperature.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO It's a 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco, pretty much all 2013 Eco's have this function. It's a nice feature to have since is my DD and I no longer have to carry jumper cables. Like the channel, keep up the great work.

There a fantastic design but if you leave your headlight's on or a door open your battery will be as flat as a pancake

That's why it's great that they give you options. I've used my phone charger at home to charge it. It charges pretty quick when it's plugged into the wall. Thanks for watching!

@@neilmurphy845 Yes it holds its charge for quite some time. I've once waited a half hour after disconnecting it from the wall, before hooking it up to the truck. Worked great!

Seems cool. I had a lit ion jump starter but every time i needed it the battery was always drained 😩

I think these supercapacitors are a great alternative to Lithium ion battery jump starters, because they have a much longer lifespan and you don't have to worry about the battery puffing up and exploding. Thanks for watching!

Sounds like a sponsored video to me but it does seem like an interesting product.

Project Farm did some testing of of about 5 jump starters, one of which was the Autowit, and it pretty much sucked across the board. Glad it works for your use. kzitem.info/news/bejne/yq6NtqxtcplkrKA&t

Ah yes. Another youtuber trying to make money on cheap Chinese electronics. You are not getting pay for the advertisement, but you did get it for free and probably make a few dollars if using your link. Vouching marvels for a product you didn’t design, make or have enough experience (years) with. This would work ok, like most of the other jump starters for lightly discharged batteries but not for really low or old batteries. Btw, any battery would go down after 2 months.
